Why should a bunch of athlete "wanna -be's decide who should inducted into the professional sports Hall of Fame's? Let's narrow this down to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. That's all what it is, is a popularity contest. You must not only have talent but you probably need to be part of the national media.
Let's start when Dallas Cowboy receiver make the H.O.F., what a total joke! Irvin never led in any category in receiving in his NFL career. Yeah he team won three Super Bowls but that was about it. Oh yes, I forgot he is a big mouth who loves himself and of course is part of the media. I believe that Irvin is a above average receiver but not great. The only play making Irvin made was in the headlines when is was arrested for drugs. If Irvin made the Hall, why not Alvin Harper, Irvin's receiving partner with the Cowboys? Oh yeah Harper is not a big mouth and not part of the national media!
I can repeat the paragraph above with Deion Sanders. Again a loud mouth, who loves himself and part of the media. Sanders would never come up from his Cornerback position to make a tackle. Like I said it is a popularity contest.
It was laughable when Thurman Thomas was not even a first ballot Hall of Famer. I would take Thomas over Sanders, and Marshall Faulk. Faulk was a great player but not an automatic first ballot Hall of Famer
Now let;s talk about what happened this Saturday Night (2/5/11) on the shunning of Pro Bowl Wide Receiver Andre Reed. Andre was not flashy put was a very tough outstanding receiver who was fearless going over the middle. He was the best receiver running after the catch only to Jerry Rice. Rice even gave Reed tremendous praise in how great of a player he was. Hall of Fame cornerback Rod Woodson even states that Andre Reed should be in the Hall of Fame. Woodson should know, he played against Reed many times. I totally respect Woodson's point of view on Reed rather than a sports writer who only wish he had the guts that Andre Reed had.
Why is RIchard Dent in the Hall now? What happened that last seven or eight times that he was not elected? If the writers need to be part of this voting system, then also have a committee of past players who know what it takes to be a great player. It is just a joke how this system works.
And you are telling me that not one Wide Receiver of the three (Reed, Carter or Brown) was good enough to make the Hall? Like I said before...what a joke!
