Dolphins QB of the Future

Tim Graham of ESPN's AFC East Blog cites a report that the Dolphins would have interest in trading for Carson Palmer.  The story also describes several other veteran QBs that the team could go after.  As a way of ranking the verteran quarterbacks available for trade (or possible free agency pick-up), who would scare you the most to see leading the Dolphins next year?  (Obviously neither option is on the table until something changes with the current lockout situation)  See the poll below to make your selection.  Secondly- is there anyone in that list you would prefer over Ryan Fitzpatrick?  For me, it's a toss-up between Palmer and Orton- though neither would scare me, and at this point I would stick with Fitzpatrick over any of the options.

Donovan McNabb

Palmer hasn’t been the same since his knee surgery – I think now it’s probably more mental but he may never get past that.

Kevin Kolb was an option but he hasn’t done enough.

I almost voted Vince Young because he’s still young (in age) and the guy (even with all his issues) just wins games

When you innovate, you've got to be prepared for everyone telling you you're nuts.

agreed

Dmac still has something left.. Even if he is inconsistent I think he can still show up twice a year verse the Bills and get the ball to Brandon Marshall 10-15 times for a few scores on any given Sunday. Look how much better he made Santana Moss…

Kevin Kolb

we are building to compete in the future. A young upside guy like Kolb would be a greater threat to the Bills than a one or two season stop gapper like Palmer or McNabb

i’m sure i’m going to regret this conversation… but what the hell - J2

i would trade my second for Kolb over drafting Ponder or Kap

You’re right, it really depends on if you look at in the short term (who is better next year) or the long term (who has more upside for the next 5-10 years)

Young

he can hurt you in too many ways. has alot of growing up to do, obviously, but he is the one i would least like to play twice a year. Although reuniting Orton with Marshall sends some chills too.

Vince Young

Proven winner, all off the field and mental issues aside the guy knows how to just go out there and win games whether it’s with his legs or with his arm. Besides I think he’s going to have a little chip on his shoulder this year to try and rub it in Fisher and the Titans faces.

Can I vote None of the Above?

None of them scare me. I hope they go with a vet like Palmer or McNabb because that will only set their organization back. I am only scared that they find a franchise QB in the draft this year and we don’t.

Locker is their likely target, in my opinion.

I think their target is Newton

perfect for their wildcat, 1 read, pass or run. You know Newton will throw better than Ronnie Brown if he chooses pass and is a more powerful RB. They blew a 2nd rounder on Pat White trying to make this wildcat thing go to the next level, they would love to blow a first rounder on Newton if available where they pick, who is such a better fit to take their wildcat to the next level.

Orton

Nothing about the guy particularly impresses me, but he seems to be a smart player who just exceeds expectations. I can see him having one of those careers you look back at and say, “wherever he went, he was liked, but not well liked.”

If we are talking about next year alone; Palmer.
If we are talking about next year and beyond; Kolb.

Kolb

I don’t know that he’s currently anything special but the Dolphins could bring back Chad Pennington as a positional coach/advisor. Pennington used to kill Buffalo with all of those underneath type throws…and Kolb can throw the ball more than 30 yards.

It can always get worse. Let me tell you how.

I’d be very happy if they brought Chad back as their #2.

I dont’ think they’d bring Pennington as a player—more of some sort of QB coach assistant or something.

Orton

Because of Marshall.

Really?

Did you watch Orton in 2010? Orton lost 10 games. Many of them blowout losses in Divivsion. That’s that what got McDaniels fired. Orton a caretaker. Is he better than Henne, probably.
