Getting inside the heads of CHIX- are we in for a surprise come draft day?

Lets say, for a moment, the Bills don't see a guy they consider a franchise QB that is worth taking in the first two rounds (or the guy they liked is gone at #3). The natural assumption is that they will fill a need on the DL by taking Dareus or Bowers. However, last year the Bills passed on OL, DT, and QB prospects in the first round and chose to add a playmaker in CJ Spiller. This got me thinking: If the Bills were OK with passing on players in positions of extreme need last year, what to say we don't do the same this year?

Lets say the Bills are on the clock with Gabbert and Bowers off the boards. If they don't like Cam Newton or Jake Locker enough to make a move on them in the first, most posters here would see Dareus as the logical pick. But I think this is where CHIX might throw a curveball at us.

There is a plethora of talented defensive players who could effectively defend the run as a 5-technique end, some of which will be available in the second. This is similar to last years draft in that: 1) CHIX doesn't see a worthy option at QB available and 2) They have DL targeted in round 2 or 3 that they believe can get the job done. So rather than take a player like Dareus who they feel they can get a slightly less talented/versatile version of in the 2nd/3rd, is it that out of line to think they pull the trigger on Patrick Peterson? Von Miller? Or dare I say, AJ Green?

I'm sure I'll take a lot more heat for suggesting AJ Green at #3 than the other two, but let me back this up. As Kaisertown pointed out, our offense needs help. Your not going to find a playmaker like Green in FA unless your willing to pay big money, so why not take him when you have the chance and instantly improve our offense? He provides an instant upgrade to Lee Evans (who could be used on 3 WR sets with Steve Johnson in the slot).

This wouldn't necessarily be my first choice, but I'm just trying to get inside the heads of our front office at this point to try to wrap my head around this situation. Remember, this is under the assumption that we don't like any of the QB's who we would take at #3.

Thoughts?
