There seems to be two schools of thought here at BR.
1) QB at #3, D at #34
2) D at #3, QB at #34
My question is this. There is always 1-2 QB's at the top of each draft considered potential franchise players. This year is no different, with the opinions on Gabbert, Newton, and perhaps Locker going back and forth. Next year there's the possibility of Luck and even Barkley. In a year with deeeeeeep DL talent, the #34 pick would allow us to get an additional, FIRST ROUND TALENT at DL, a player probably drafted in the 20's in a normal draft, but now a player sliding simply due to the depth of talent. Why not get two first round defensive players this year and use the next draft to trade up (if needed) to get the 1 franchise QB? My idea:
1st rd: Miller or Quinn (I prefer the elite pass rusher with above average impact in the run game vs Dareus, who seems to be the elite run stopper with above average impact in the pass rush)
2nd rd: Wilkerson or Taylor or DE (quality DL size and talent)
3rd rd, 2 4th rders: SS, TE, ILB (not necessarily in that order)
QB: Play Fitz! Do I think he's a playoff-drought ender? Yes. Superbowl winner? No. Sign him to a 3 year deal after this year, providing he plays similarly to last year. Use the 2012 or even 2013 draft (depending on the play of Fitz and QB class) and trade up big, if needed, to nab a prospect.
