Brian linked their top 100 a few days ago www.profootballweekly.com. Then I used www.walterfootball.com 4/14 mock to keep it real. I used Nawrocki's big board, and Draft Guide, then cross checked with Mayock's top 32 and comments. PFW ranking after name. Comments, then players considered, then players rejected (but loved here). I did this on 2/20, but only used Mayock's top 5 by position. I did not consider RB,WR,FS,C, or undersized DT & ILB in the early rounds. Newton and Dareus went 1-2. Don't worry this won't happen, but I'd take it...
#3 QB Blaine Gabbert (8): Mayock has him at (5). Understand the uneasiness here, but when argueably the best evaluators agree on a franchise QB I take him (still would like to know Jaworski's opinion though). Von Miller (1) & (2) made this very difficult.
#34 DE Adrian Clayborn (18): Mayock has him at (29), a recent downgrade. I took Rudolph (28) & (32) on 2/20, and wanted to again. Clayborn could, but probably won't, fall this far. Considered Bruce Carter (30); Danny Watkins (27) too old; Brandon Harris (26) Mayock doesn't like him this much. Did not consider Martez Wilson (60) or Brooks Reed (57) as need = reach.
#68 T Marcus Gilbert (49): I subjectively overruled two slightly higher rated players based on need. Need being a backup (or starter) LT. This is critical! James Carpenter (40) and Clint Boling (47) are rated as Guards but can play RT, but I don't think they have LT capability. If Carpenter was rated a little higher I would have stuck to the board. Sorry, but there are still no highly rated LB's that fit.
#100 TE Virgil Green (64): Mayock's #5 TE. Considered Jaiquan Jarrett (72) and Josh Thomas (77). Did not consider Brandon Hogan(58) for character & Kelvin Sheppard (101) as need = reach.
#122 CB Josh Thomas (77):
#133 OLB Cliff Matthews (98): Considered Akeem Dent (93)
#169 ILB Akeem Dent (93): Draft guide has him as #2 ILB, Mayock #5 ILB. Guide says he has "take on strength", but I wish he were a little bigger. Considered Mark Herzlich & Cedric Thornton
7th round: Walter doesn' have it, and I'm out of top 100. Liked Charlie Gantt at the combine though.
Notes: It's difficult to be disciplined and stick to your board, but with so few quality players on the roster it makes it a little easier. Personally I did not have an agenda, but refuse to draft run stopping defensive players to placate fans. I do have an agenda on free agency though. Don't take a QB and not protect him. My number one priority in free agency is to sign either Justin Blaylock or Marshall Yanda who will be 27 and 26 when the season starts. Not too expensive, and waiving Pears, Wrotto, Rinehart, Urbik is the immediate to 2 year goal. If Bell falters make that the #1 priority next year. DE Steven Bowen (27) is another target.
Shout out to Kaisertown he had Gilbert and Thomas in his 2/10 mock.
