Just reading the name gives me a headache. I can't understand how anyone sees him as a top pick, especially for the Bills. Coach Gailey has said they want decision-making and accuracy, which doesn't make me think of Cam Newton.. Buddy has also talked about getting guys with experience, which Newton also lacks.
He is an unbelievable athlete I will give him that.. but that won't get you by in the NFL like it did in college. The mental aspect of the game is just as (if not more) important than being a physical specimen, especially for the QB position. I watched the Gruden QB Camp on Newton and i was not impressed. (You can watch it here -> http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=6375220) Sure, he was charming and charismatic, but he had nothing smart to say about football.
You could say that he is just a "winner." He simply won games, including obviously the BCS championship. Here are the last 10 "winners" in college football.
2001 - Josh Heupel, Oklahoma
2002 - Jen Dorsey, Miami (FL)
2003 - Craig Krenzel , Ohio State
2004 - Matt Mauck, LSU
2005 - Matt Leinart , USC
2006 - Vince Young, Texas
2007 - Chris Leak, Florida
2008 - Matt Flynn, LSU
2009 - Tim Tebow, Florida
2010 - Greg McElroy, Alabama
My point here is success in college does not necessarily mean you will do well in the NFL. I am trying not to be biased but I simply have no reason to believe he is worthy of such a high pick.
Please feel free to try to convince me Cam Newton is a good idea, I'm very open-minded...
