I’ll be the first to admit that trading down is something that I thought would be the most beneficial to this team. Maybe move down a few spots, pick up another pick or two. While still getting their hands on one of the top defensive prospects coming out.
After hearing Buddy say that he wouldn’t want to trade down, because getting a pick this high in the draft is rare...hopefully, I began to think. At first, I thought it was silly to make such a claim, when we have the chance to pick up some real value by getting out of the spot.
But then my thinking turned into what Buddy and crew have valued at the top of the board. If they think that the value of say Von Miller or Marcell Dareus is that much higher than the next candidates on their list than it makes sense to stay at 3. Why would you pass on the potential of grabbing such a high caliber player, to perhaps grab a couple more guys that could be decent.
The Buffalo Bills #1 Draft gem is Bruce Smith. What happens if we trade away that pick. Bruce never wears a Bills jersey. We miss out on one of the best athletes that has ever made an impact on this team, for some value in a later round.
This is not a risk I’m willing to take. If the Bills think that anyone will have remotely as high of an impact as Bruce, than I cannot see how it would be beneficial to get out of the spot. I don’t care if they think its Miller, Dareus, Gabbert, Newton or even Peterson. If they think a guy is going to be something special, they better take him. This team is in need of a true franchise player, a future Hall of Famer, more than its in need to pick up an extra pick in a later round.
