I am hoping we get Sheard (or Houston) with #34. I think both of them are great fits for our defense. They can both play DE in our 4-3 looks and be stout enough against the run but also supply significant pass rush. And, while they may not be perfect for the OLB in the 3-4, I believe they both have the athletic ability to play there. I think they will struggle a little in coverage, but both would be huge pass rushers off the edge. I think either would play the Kelsay role on our defense and be significantly better than Kelsay.
Then in the 3rd, as most people are projecting, I think we take Kelvin Sheppard. It isn't a secret that OBD likes the guy, and I think he is a really good fit to play next to Poz at ILB.
Obviously if this happens, we'll have a very young, inexperienced defense this year. So I wouldn't expect huge improvements in our overall defensive numbers. But, by 2012, I'd fully expect the young guys to start realizing their full potential and we could have a potentially dominant defense for many years to come.
