Peter King: Kyle Williams NFL's 27th-Best Player

Kyle Williams has been the main beneficiary of any lavish praised tossed the way of the Buffalo Bills for several months. That continued this morning, when Peter King (Sports Illustratedlisted Williams as the 27th-best player in the NFL. King is releasing his Top 100 NFL players list alongside the one being produced by NFL Network (and that does not include Williams).

At his position, King lists Williams ahead of big names such as Vince Wilfork, Aubrayo Franklin and Kevin Williams, while putting him just a few slots behind Ndamukong Suh and Haloti Ngata.

"Surprised at me having Kyle Williams 27 while the players, apparently, don't have him in the top 100? Watch some video of him," King writes. "He consistently occupies two blockers. Always moving forward. A machine. I remember talking to Chan Gailey about him last year. This is a man who coached Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin - and I do believe I have never heard him rave about any player the way he raved to me about Williams."

Still find it absolutely amazing that he isnt in the NFLN Top 100.

Thats a complete joke.

I, like all of you, love when a Buffalo player gets props by the national media, and Kyle Williams is a guy that Peter Kind has fallen in love with.

AMAZING. name five things better than this post by cjf4. YOU CAN’T. unless you’re talking about the Yankees stadium pre-game spread. oh, you’ve never had it? maybe that’s due to your work ethic, plebe. now i know the real reason you’re reading this post, though. because it’s about football. so let’s talk about beer and baseball and racism and the fact that no one in america reads books. how do i know that? BECAUSE I DON’T. therefore, no one else reads them either. particularly when i’m complaining about having to go on vacation for a month.

At first, I thought it was sincere, then sarcastic, then sincere, then sarcastic, then I really didn’t understand anymore toward the end :)

Back in the day (2 yrs ago) we were listing the young talent

that the Bills should build around, and I wrote a “I’m going to go out on a limb and say Kyle Williams,” type of comment. None of us could see his potential as King’s 27th best player, even though there were flashes. Now that he’s consistently dominant, it’s nice to have a superstar on the team, especially thinking back to how we all pined for one for years.

Wow. A defensive lineman from a 4-12 football team gets a ranking that high? He must be good! Even if he is THAT talented I think it would be pretty easy to overlook because the team was so lousy. If you’re trying to catalog the top 100 players in the league, why would you even look at the Bills D Line unless a player REALLY stood out as being awesome?

And now we got Dareus too! Everybody’s talking about Detroit’s DLine, teams better not sleep on Buffalo this year.

Like I’ve said before Williams is the main reason I wanted us to draft Dareus. That much talent side by side is going to demand attention. It is going to be a fun thing to watch these guys together over the years.

You know it! Our D-line is gonna rock. Poz will clean up this year if we resign him because of these guys.

2012

I am really looking forward to 2012. Nix first draft consisted of a lot of small school work ethic and character guys. Guys not exactly game ready but have the drive and ability to learn the game. In 2012 they will have 2 years conditioning and training under there belts and should turn a corner. This past draft has a lot of big school game ready guys who can compete for a spot early on. Would expect them to be turning the same corner as the small school guys in 2012. Having managed to add talent at all levels of the defense we should have a lot of things going right for us come 2012.

arbitrary

How arbitrary are these lists? We know Kyle Williams is a good player, but King ranking him 27th vs. the players leaving him unranked is hardly meaningful. These lists are absurd and nothing of value comes out of them. They are simply the byproduct of an internet culture that enjoys ranking things. The exciting thing about Williams is that in my mind, he has improved steadily throughout the course of his career. If he improves upon last year in 2011, he’ll make all sorts of lists- and he’ll continue to make them as his career tails off because ranking eclectic groups in one list is futile- sometimes fun, but ultimately futile.

way to be the downer of the thread

I’m sure most if us realize that much, but it is still note worthy, especially during a lockout.

???

I specifically said that Kyle Williams is a good player above. Unless you’re simply a Peter King fan, I’m hardly putting down anyone. King’s column is definitely weak journalism in my opinion- I see nothing sad about admitting this as a Bills’ supporter.

no not really

just seemed that you were bashing lists and this post in general. I agree that they are mostly pointless, but it is filler when there is little substance to talk about right now.

I do agree King has little real substance.

A ton of people ranked college football’s pro prospects for months, and have been doing it for years. People love it, all of it.
