To start this off, I am going to say I have tempered expectations for this season. I don't expect a playoff appearance, I just want to see improvement overall. With that being said, I really don't mind to much in how free agency has gone so far. Don't get me wrong, I love Poz just like all of you. But it was his preference to go back to a 4-3. Nix tried to keep him around. There was effort there to keep him.
Now the singing of Thiggy as a back up QB, in this very shortened NFL off season, is wonderful for this team. Am I truly impressed with him as a QB, meh not really. But he knows Gailey, has a history with him, and will be able to pick up the offence very fast. Not much more you could ask for in a back up quarterback. Plus maybe he could even give some pointers to Fitzy from being in Gailey's system before.
Now I said I have tempered expectations. I don't expect much from this off season. Yes we have money to spend, yes 99% of the fan base wants the front office to go out and spend it right away. It was only the first day, with not too many big names flying off the board just yet. There is still time for Buffalo to make some smart moves that won't handcuff this franchise in the future by putting us in salary cap hell. I know we are all excited to have this crazy period in front of us. But can we all be honest and say that we most likely won't make the playoffs this year? What would signing "big-time" free agents this year do for us? We are about 2-3 years away from really needing free agency to plug some holes in order to make a run at the playoffs. I think it's just a little to early for most of us to be ready to jump off the nearest bridge because of the way things have gone so far. Just take a step back from the ledge, and enjoy the show. I know it's hard to say and everyone wants to improve immediately. But Rome wasn't built in a day, and this rebuilding process will take some time. (I hope no one is offended by this article, I was attempting to just give a different perspective to how I see things and lighten the mood around here.)
