After UDFA Signings, Bills' Roster Unofficially At 86
At his "Back to Football" press conference on Tuesday, Buffalo Bills GM Buddy Nix told assembled reporters that he expected his roster to be up to the league-maximum 90 players by the time training camp opened on Saturday. After the team announced the signings of 19 undrafted free agents on Thursday, the Bills are very close to reaching that goal.
By our count, Buffalo's roster now stands at 86 players. That count includes the three free agents the team can't officially sign until tomorrow evening - Drayton Florence, Tyler Thigpen and Brad Smith. It also includes the eight drafted rookies that have not yet signed contracts. It does not include tight end Scott Chandler, who has an RFA tender but has not yet signed it.
Be sure to check the link above for the list of undrafted free agents the team has added; we're too busy here to provide info on them right away, so head to the almighty Google if you're curious. Also, if you're looking for the roster in depth chart form, we've got an unofficial one right here.

a RT and an ILB
Willie Colon and Kevin Burnett
Brad Smith
You have Smith put in the depth chart at WR, but I’ve also heard talk of the Bills keeping him in the 3rd QB spot. Does it matter which position he is on the roster for NFL purposes?
No it doesn’t. I just put him at WR because that’s likely where the Bills will list him.

I really wanted to sign a legit SS
But I guess I can live with Searcy and Wilson manning SS, but if this is the case who’s going to back up Byrdman????

Me too. I think he has a shot at the roster. (not that hard w/ our current crop though). Also like that he was #2 in the country in receptions before he broke his leg.

Looking over list
There are always a few UDFA’s that shine and make the team or make the practice squad.

4 Spots Left
RT – Tyson Clabo
ILB – Kevin Burnett
DL – No one in particular
LB – No one in particular
Could add in TE but I just don’t see us adding a TE. I think adding Clabo and Burnett and signing a couple other players, we will be all set for the season.

I thought we had agreed to terms with Mario Harvey. Did he go elsewhere?

Shouldn’t be much wiggle room for Dareus now.
Twitter popping with Clabo Rumors
Saying Clabo to Buffalo is done deal, to be announced later. No major media sources have confirmed yet, though.
I think there’s an Atlanta site that has though. This is done.

Precisely. No offense meant, but I’m waiting for something far more concrete.

Out of curiosity I searched twitter for buffalo and clabo and it the echo of the unconfirmed reports has reached a pretty feverish pitch. But TWITTER’s mass hysteria confirms people care…

They’re all stemming from that same queencitysports link though, as far as I can tell. Not buying any of it, even if he indeed has agreed already these rumors are coming from BS.
wikipedia
also not concrete, but wikipedia says he’s on the bills
Sorry I meant this to be in response to the Clabo comments

Out of the undrafted FA list that BB.com has posted, the player that most caught my eye was TE Zach Pianalto. If he can stay healthy I think he should have one of the best shots to make the team out of the group.
This strikes me more as a 'hurt your enemies' move than 'help yourself'
I’m sure that he’ll add some wrinkles to the offense, such as wildcat formations and carrying him as the 3rd quarterback pretty much means that he’s roster spot neutral on game days. (Fitz and ? being the two real QBs active.) Taking him away from the Jets only helps the Bills.
Money-wise, I don’t know what to make of this move. He’s not breaking the bank but wasn’t there a RT or ILB out there somewhere the Bills could have used that cash on?
It can always get worse. Let me tell you how.

For a thorough hashing out of this, jsut go to the BRad Smith announcement post and catch up on the 300+ postings. Whose to say it precludes us from addressing other positions…

The Bills seem to be spending some serious money this FA period…I think they’ll throw some money at those positions, too.

Some promising UDFA's
In addition to Zach Pinalto, the TE who a number of people have mentioned earlier in this thread, and leaving aside all the DB’s (who are impossible to sort out at this point) the following strike me as possible pleasant surprises this year:
Brian Duncan — an OLB from Texas Tech who is 248 lbs and had 12 TFL and 7 sacks his senior year. I gather the big question with him is whether he can develop pass coverage skills. His stiff hips may be a problem.
Vai Taua — a 220 lb RB from Nevada who I kept track of this past year and found very impressive. This guy averaged 127 yards/game as a senior and almost never fumbles. He had three straight 1,000 yard rushing seasons and was also a good receiver. We dont especially need a RB, but Taua (pronounced “Towa”) is such a battering ram that I could see him sneaking onto the roster, or at least the PS.
Brad Jefferson — 244 lb. ILB from George Tech who was recruited by Chan Gailey and had a great college career. A very hard hitter and leader.
I think they lost Duncan, too deep @ RB & agree completely w/Jefferson.
