Would I have liked the Bills to have landed one of the guys they "targeted" and lost? yeah. I would have loved it. BUT I am more glad they aren't overpaying a player just to get him. Overpaid players tend to underachieve compared to their pay, which just leads to more complaining about how "so-and-so is an overpaid bum and I can't believe they brought him in and should just cut the guy already!" Remember Derrick Dockery's contract? sign him for 7 years, cut him after 2? I remember Dockery being pretty unimpressive, and deservingly got released.
There has been far too much negativity about this FA. Let's not fool ourselves. The Bills aren't a marquee destination right now. Over 10 years out of the playoffs. 20 years removed from the glory days of Jim Kelly and the Super Bowls.
At least credit Nix for identifying and talking with players that address needs and would improve the team. I'd rather see competency from the guys in charge of the team and failing to land players than I would see the front office waste money on a guy who doesn't want to be here. I'll take them rewarding guys who contribute that are already on the roster, improve this season, build for another year with another solid draft, and then make a few gambles in FA next off season to really try to put things together. Rebuilding is a 3 year process, don't be delusional and expect it to be over night.
