Web Rumblings: Buffalo Bills News, 8/16

LB Maybin released - BuffaloBills.com
"I don’t know what scheme he fits at that size, unless you’re a strong safety or something," said Nix. "He says it’s his metabolism and maybe that’s what it is, but he couldn’t hold weight. He was 250 when we saw him at the combine and he was 228 this fall. Now he goes up and down some, but not very high."

Aaron Maybin Released
Bills waive former first-round pick Maybin - The Buffalo News

"The team officially severed ties with Maybin, arguably the biggest draft bust in franchise history, on Monday. Drafted with the No. 11 pick overall in 2009 because of his stellar ability as a collegiate pass rusher, Maybin finished his Bills career without a sack and just 24 tackles, including 15 solos."

Video highlights of last night's practice along with coverage of Aaron Maybin's release.

Inside The Bills | Maybin just a tough fit
"When asked about Maybin by reporters, Chan Gailey said the LB worked hard, gave good effort, but he made it clear that Maybin struggled to hold his ground at the point of attack, could not produce consistently and had a long way to go. That shouldn’t be the description for a third-year player."

Nix quotes on Maybin - The Buffalo News
"On the release of Maybin and letting young guys get a chance at a roster spot."

Buffalo Bills release Aaron Maybin | Democrat and Chronicle
"Aaron Maybin's status as arguably the most seismic draft bust in Buffalo Bills history was secured Monday when the team waived the undersized outside linebacker, a move that likely surprised no one." Sal has a way with words...

Farewell! Remembering Mayhem Maybin - WGR 550
"We'll start alllllllllll the way back to the 2009 NFL Scouting Combine. Maybin showed up to Indianapolis 'beefed up' to 250 pounds, up from his Penn State playing weight of 230. Regardless of Maybin only being successful in one season, and having the majority of his success against weaker competition, Dick Jauron and company were sold on what Maybin could do on the field."

Bears may be interested in waived Bills linebacker Aaron Maybin - chicagotribune.com
"According to multiple sources, the team has had discussions about Aaron Maybin, who was waived by the Bills on Monday. All indications are the 11th pick of the 2009 draft wants to play for defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli."

Aaron Maybin’s time in Buffalo is up | ProFootballTalk
"How far has Aaron Maybin’s stock fallen since he was taken No. 11 overall in the 2009 draft? The Bills tried to trade him recently for absolutely anything, and they found no takers."

Training Camp Notes
Practice Notes - Day 12 - BuffaloBills.com

"It wasn’t bad for us," (Gailey) said. "It’s wasn’t fun, but it wasn’t bad for us. We needed the rain. We needed the work in it. You don’t know when you’re going to get a game like that. You need to handle the ball, and one of the good things was the ball didn’t go on the ground out there and that was a positive. It was good to get one of those. You don’t really look forward to them, but it’s good to have them."

Inside The Bills | Nesbitt now 47
"QB Josh Nesbitt has changed his number from 7 to 47 as he moves from QB to safety."

Inside The Bills | WR Davis to be out "for a while"
"He strained something," said Gailey. "I can’t remember what it was. We’ve got so many of those little nicks out there I don’t remember what it was. It’s going to be a while. It’s going to be a few days on him."

Inside The Bills | Gailey on film review of game
"Overall I thought the ones on offense and defense did okay," he said. "We’ve got something we can build on from there. The rest of them were not very good at all and we’ve got a lot of work to try to find which of those guys are going to come up and help this football team be a championship football team. And our special teams overall were extremely poor. If we play like that on special teams we’ll lose two or three games because of special teams this year."

Inside The Bills | Sheppard update
"He’s just recovering," said head coach Chan Gailey. "He couldn’t quite go full speed and we want to make sure he gets closer to full speed and let him cut loose."

Inside The Bills | WR groupings post Evans
"For those that missed it in Saturday’s preseason opener. Here were some of the more common receiver groupings with Lee Evans no longer a part of the equation."

Inside The Bills | Dareus eager to jump around
"That’s the plan," he said. "That’s what we’re trying to get to now. We want to get to the point where we know everything fluently, left or right side, standing up so it’ll confuse the offense a little bit where their blocking schemes get messed up. So we’re just trying to do a little something trying to put a little mixture into it."

Bills Show Progress vs da Bears - Mostly | wgrz.com
"Although we only had less than a quarter of a rather meaningless pre-season opener to see what the possibilities might be for the Bills of 2011, only the most jaded pessimist would not see some promise over this team we were looking at right about this time a year ago."

Individually, Bills did have their moments - Olean Times Herald

Portsmouth's Moats puzzled by move to inside linebacker | HamptonRoads.com
"Despite Moats' ability to disrupt a backfield in the mold of Steelers star James Harrison, the Bills have shifted Moats, who's shorter than his listed 6-foot-2, to an inside linebacker spot, much to his confusion. They tried him there last year as well with ineffective results."

They are good folks. Something happened by accident. They have followed me on Twitter for a while before the Mafia thing happened.

I don't like the Mafia name and I don't like the idea of Bills players turning fans loose on other fans

People realize that the Mafia actually existed and still exists, right? I don’t know why anyone would want that kind of connotation associated with a group of football fans.

Their not saying their an organized crime group. It was started on accident really and stuck. It’s not really serious. I am more concerned.with bills fans having a reputation for drinking till they puke.

I have no doubt that it was started with the best of intentions

but the name is the name and it means what it means. Words have meaning and power, which is why we don’t use certain words to describe people. They have the power to change it if they want.
