Bills vs. Jaguars: Pre-Season Game Blacked Out In WNY
The Buffalo Bills will be playing on a new Ralph Wilson Stadium playing surface, wearing new uniforms, on Kid's Night, for the first time in the 2011 season tomorrow evening. You'll need to be there to see it, as the game has not sold out, and won't be televised locally.
If you're interested in following the game live, however, fret not: Buffalo's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars will be broadcast on the radio, as the folks at 1180 WHAM point out.
In the 2010 regular season, Buffalo's home tilt with the Jaguars brought an end to a hefty sellout streak, and was one of three Bills home games to be blacked out last season (the other two being home tilts with the Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns). Apparently, the impending return of linebacker Paul Posluszny wasn't enough to draw Bills fans into a meaningless pre-season game - even with Buffalo's starters to get more than a half's worth of playing time.

It's absolutely silly they black these "games" out.
Who in their right mind would pay to see the “show” they’re apt to put on Saturday?

hahaha, I'll be there, and of mostly right mind ;)
with about 30 friends, but its really just an excuse to tailgate. Tix are only $5 in the nosebleeds if you buy them through someone with season tickets. Plus fireworks afterwards!
But really, I’m excited to see the new field and jerseys. I might even pay attention to the game!
Is it too much for me to ask that our potential QB of the future is athletic, accurate, and smart? Or at least two of those?

Living in Jacksonville’s finally going to pay off! I mean, besides the golfing in “Winter” and everything. I’ll be watching live with the rest of my Jax Bills fan crew.

Alright...
I understand the regular season but the PRE season?
Sorry for the locals...
I live south of Denver and I’m pretty sure last weeks game was not sold out but, It was broadcast here locally. Are there different rules for a small market like Buffalo? Weird…. Unfortunately, I saw the last weeks game 4 times ( live, rebroadcast, and 2x on NFL replay) and we didn’t win in any of them :( …. I hope the Bills come out fired up and put on a good showing for the home crowd!
LETS GO BUFFALOOOOO!!
Agreed…but will it be replayed the following day on tv?

Thats why we will get the pick
We won’t be 8-8.
Sorry about the blackout, but
I live in Central Florida and this will be the first (and only) game of the pre-season that I get to see live since Orlando is considered a “Jacksonville Market”.
The good news is that the NFL network replays all these games sooner or later.
this is a sign of things to come........
I can’t remember the last kid’s day pre season game that was blacked out.
Unless the Bills win early and often, I expect al ot of blackouts this year.

It's just an exhibition game
When is the last time the Bills sold out a exhibition game, I certainly can’t remember when.
I can’t figure out why the NFL just doesn’t discount them to 1/2 price to get fans in the stands.
The NFL is their own worse enemy, they directly compete aginst itself with direct TV. Fans are starting to stay away from stadiums due to DTV, the total cost to go to games and the comfort of sitting in your own living room watching HD TV. The live game day experience is truly on the decline…

It’s a fair bit of money to spend on the team, when you consider the drive from outside of Buffalo, the cost to park (good grief, Batman!), and the terribly boring product they often display on the field these days.
The last game I attended was last year’s opener. I have never been so bored and frustrated attending a game in my life.

The Bucs have a very good up & coming team with an outstanding young QB in Josh Freeman an couldn’t sell out 1 game last year. Both their exhibition games will be blacked out. The NFL better be wary of the trend that is developing… Pay for view could be here in the near future.

I was sitting about five rows behind these guys I think towards the end of the game… a guy sitting behind them was ripping the bag off their heads and yelling at them… I was waiting for the brawl. I might have joined in… not telling which side I would have helped…

If it was me wearing the bags, i’d have told the guy that if he’d simply stop and watch the game instead of yelling at me, he’d see exactly why the bags were on our heads.

“towards the end of the game” are the operative words.
Hard to reason with someone who’s been drinking heavily for a couple hours and it’d be hard for him to “see” the game.
Classic Catch 22 though…need to drink heavily to watch the game but can’t see it because you’re drinking heavilty…wait, that’s a win-win!

More than likely, he’d been drinking since 8 am. I never understood people getting blitzed when going to an event they pay good money to attend.

I feel the same, I enjoy a few beers and libations but I’m there to enjoy the game.

unfortunately
The guy tearing the bag off didn’t have alcohol to blame… he was quite sober from my view. He was just pissed that the guy wasn’t supporting the Bills… It almost got uglier, but the guys with the bags ended up removing them and relenting to the yelling guy. The bag guys showed remarkable restraint.

Speaking of Buffalo Bills blackouts
who here hates how Rochester gets blacked out but isn’t considered one of Buffalo’s major markets (or something unfair like that)?
this is bogus
I’m not going to drive through potentially a hurricane to go see this game. Whatever….
