Practice Notes - Day 5 - BuffaloBills.com
"It was great to see everybody and most everybody made some kind of play out there," said head coach Chan Gailey. "It was great. It was good to see those guys. I didn’t see much of Nick (Barnett) because I’m watching the offense obviously. I’ll have to go watch it on film. It looked like he got around the ball a couple of times. Drayton made a play or two. I saw that. I thought Tyler did some nice things for not ever having taken a snap in our offense, at least the one here. So it was good."

"We’ve got to get him to become a better underneath receiver," Gailey opined. "We got to give him things that he can do, let him work on those things that make him better as a short receiver. We know he’s got the deep threat, we know he’s always had that and we got to help him get better in the intermediate and short areas."

TOO much for Whitner

especially since he isn’t going to shine any brighter in san fran than he did in buff. Safeties in the NFL make just under a million on average, Whitner is above average but I wouldn’t give him more than 2 mill a season, definatly not close to four million, thats saying he is 4x better than any safety in the league who isn’t top 10. saying whitner is the 11th best safety in the league and paying him more than some top 10 players at the safety position. the bills let him go for a good reason 1) he is a pain in the rear 2) he thinks he is worth more than he is. Good Luck Donte, we might miss you this year but you had a better chance to get a ring in Buff than you do in SanFran

I just saw that the jets aren't going to re-sign James Ihedigbo

last time we beat the jets he took swings at Derek Fine, but last time I checked Derek Fine sucks and the jets have good safeties and we need a safety

what does sucking have to do with taking a swing at said player?

and why do we need a safety?

sucking has nothing to do with the swing

but since he sucks he shouldn’t be a reason not to sign a guy who would upgrade our safeties
we need a safety because UMMMM? Donte Whitner just left via FA

So if we pay Fitz #1 QB money,

Then Jerry Sullivan won’t think the Bills are cheap. This is important Buddy, we need to take Jerry seriously or as Stevie put’s it “Not So Serious”.

If Fitz proves that last year wasn't a fluke

which I don’t think it was, he deserves #1 QB money… Fitz is probably better than half the starting QBs in the league

AFC East: Brady
AFC West: Rivers
AFC North: Roethlisberger, Flacco, Palmer(staying retired?)
AFC South: Manning, Schaub
NFC East: Romo, Vick, Manning
NFC West: Bradford, Kolb
NFC North: Cutler, Rodgers, Stafford
NFC South: Brees, Freeman, Ryan

So I have 18 listed that I believe are better QB’s than Fitzpatrick. You could probably even argue a guy like Kyle Orton should be in the mix too. I’m not a QB guru and I’m not pretending to be, but I think the Bills should be wary of throwing money around, especially at the QB position. It will set the tone as Fitz being the leader for the next 3 years if they give him #1 money. He’s not going to just take a 2 year deal unless the money is really good, and chances are high the Bills FO finally reaches for the franchise signal caller in the draft this year. Sooner or later they have to take their QB of the future, I can’t see them passing it up again (I should say I’ve been absolutely on board with them passing on the last 2 years of QB’s in the draft). So I guess what I’m saying is I wouldn’t mind Fitz staying longer, he’s serviceable at times, good to great other times, but I don’t think he’s the guy to take us to the promised land. I’m hoping the Bills wait it out and decide if that guy is there in the draft and then react accordingly with Fitz. They can draft a QB and give Fitz a short term deal or lock him up and draft BPA.

Ha, at first I laughed when I saw Gaughan’s “home-grown” article doesn’t even mention Maybin. But then I realized he also completely left out Spiller. Crummy job on that one, Gaughan. From all accounts, Spiller is having a decent training camp and worked hard all off-season.

True enough.

Yeah, a not-too-well-thought-out article by Gaughan there.
