Web Rumblings: Buffalo Bills News, 9/28

Bills promote CB Wheatley; TE Martin released - BuffaloBills.com
"Wheatley (5’9" 185), a former second-round pick of the New England Patriots (2008), appeared in 11 games for the Patriots his first two NFL seasons in a reserve capacity, but staying healthy proved to be an issue early in his career. In his first career start for the Patriots in 2008 he suffered a wrist injury that landed him on injured reserve."

Buffalo Bills close to new deal with St. John Fisher for training camp | Democrat and Chronicle
"Brandon also said in August the Bills and Fisher were working on a solution. That appears to be the removal of four tennis courts adjacent to the field house to install a grass field."

Bengals try to Buffalo Fitzpatrick - Bengals.com
"I don't think that was so much the start of it as it was just a continuation of us maturing as a group," Fitzpatrick said. "These guys are good players and we've had one more year together."

Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions create blueprint for NFL success - ESPN
"Page 2 dissects blueprint for success used by the Bills and Lions." Careful... it's tongue-in-cheek.

Inside The Bills | TE Smith to have bigger role
"Now that he’s been around a month, he’s likely comfortable enough to execute a game plan on a Sunday. With Scott Chandler the only other tight end on the roster, it’s likely that Smith will be active on Sunday. Smith has been inactive each of the first three games."

Inside The Bills | A stat Bills fans hope to rely on
"Since 1990, 75.9 percent of teams that started 3-0 made the playoffs. Those are odds that most Bills fans will take in a second. Of course the odds are even higher if a team goes 4-0, with the percentages in the low 80′s."

NFL Videos: Are you a Billiever?
"03:38 – The Bills are 3-0 and changing a lot of early perceptions. Steve Johnson is happy to see Jamie Dukes on the Buffalo bandwagon, but just how far can Ryan Fitzpatrick and Co. carry them?"

NFL Videos: Johnson: 'We expect to win.'
"03:44 – Are the Buffalo Bills bound to make the playoffs? Stevie Johnson explains why the team is a legitimate contender."

Harrison on Bills, Eagles, Raiders | ProFootballTalk
"Here’s Rodney and yours truly talking about a few of the teams that caught our attention in Week Three. They are the surprisingly 3-0 Bills, the surprisingly 1-2 Eagles, and the surprisingly 2-1 Raiders."

Bulldog- So Far, So Great - WGR 550
"I'm two-for-two as of Tuesday morning. Both Monday and today began the same way for me. Wake up about ten minutes before the alarm goes and stumble towards the bathroom. Both days, before I could jam a toothbrush in my mouth or splash some badly needed cold water on my face, it hit me. They beat the Patriots. It just makes you smile, right. Pretty great way to start the day."

Bills Add CB Depth; Release TE - WGR 550
"Wheatley becomes the fifth healthy cornerback on the roster, joining Drayton Florence, Leodis McKelvin, Reggie Corner and Justin Rogers. On Monday, head coach Chan Gailey said they would have to get Rogers ready to be the fourth cornerback against the Bengals."

Thurman Thomas on Bills RB Fred Jackson - AFC East Blog - ESPN
"People should be kicking themselves in the butt right now and saying 'Why didn't we take a chance on this guy,'" Thomas said of Jackson, who was undrafted. "He's just an outstanding leader for the Buffalo Bills. He fits the Buffalo, New York area, as far as being a blue-collar guy. He's a perfect example of what hard work and heart will get you."

NFL Power Rankings: AFC East - AFC East Blog - ESPN
"The Bills continue their meteoric rise in the Power Rankings. Buffalo climbed ten spots after beating New England. The Bills, the only undefeated team in the AFC, have climbed 21 spots the past two weeks."

AFC East Stock Watch - AFC East Blog - ESPN
"The city of Buffalo is rocking this week after the Bills pulled off a shocking upset against the Patriots. Buffalo (3-0) is the NFL's biggest surprise and the only undefeated team in the AFC. The Bills also are in sole possession of first place in the AFC East. The Bills have to prove that they have staying power and that this start is no fluke."

Sanchez-Henne-Fitz Watch: Week 3 - AFC East Blog - ESPN
"Fitzpatrick earned the best grade in the 'Sanchez-Henne-Fitz Watch' for the third week in a row. "

"The last half of the season he really came on," the coach said during training camp. "It looks like in practice that he picked up right where he left off. I think he'll go back and have a good year."

Bills' ride: Is it destined to stall out? - Bucky Gleason
"Enjoy the ride, but proceed with caution. The NFL is tight and unpredictable. The Bills also could reach the midpoint with a 4-4 record and trouble ahead."

For Buffalo Bills' sake, let's stay in the moment | Democrat and Chronicle
"Sure, it's early in the season, but let's stay in the moment and be happy while we can."

Donald Jones answers his critics - Niagara Gazette
"Jones made a pair of key receptions in the fourth quarter on Sunday, including a 29-yard pass down the right sideline from Ryan Fitzpatrick to help set up the eventual game-winning field goal as the resilient Bills overcame an early deficit and finally got past mighty New England, 34-31."

DUVALL: The Bills make us want to shout - Tonawanda News
"A sense of relief washed over me. I half-expected to walk outside to a sulfurous rain of hellfire and brimstone. Just a few minutes earlier the Bills — the Buffalo Bills — had defeated the New England Patriots."

Hlas: Ex-Coe Kohawk Fred Jackson accelerating in NFL | TheGazette
"When they see him on ESPN," Raeburn said, "they say all those Iowa Conference defensive guys who played in the early 2000s don’t feel so bad now. The Patriots’ guys aren’t able to tackle Freddie, either."

Buffalo abuzz as upstart Bills look like contenders | Reuters
"The hour-long backup at the border connecting Canada to the United States early on a sunny Sunday morning offered a hint that something was happening in Buffalo. Later, in the dark of night, the flood would reverse, with giddy Bills fans returning home declaring an unlikely victory over Tom Brady and New England Patriots to customs officials."

NFL.com news: Ivy League QB, Bills bond over blue-collar roots
"I've always thought the term "blue-collar work ethic" was a little silly. It implies those who labor in offices and boardrooms aren't capable of pulling long hours, grinding themselves to exhaustion, or have to go through adversity to succeed. That notion, of course, is ridiculous. Exhibit A is now playing quarterback for the Bills."

“I know one thing about these guys: They’re not going to stop quitting.”
— Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne after his team dropped to 0-3.

That’s golden.

Detroit and Buffalo are not even closer to being the same...

The team have the same record but that is about as similar. They have a No1 pick at QB, 1st round, WR, and TE. The exact opposite of our team.

The article is really meant to be a joke.

At what point will the Sanchez-Henne-Fitz watch become completely and utterly insulting to people with more than nine brain cells? I mean, are you kidding me?

Not very long. But really though, I’ll read anything that has Fitz ranked ahead of Sanchez.

Wheatley was a second rounder from the Pats?

All I ever hear about is how great the Pats are at drafting. They miss just as much as anyone else. Actually this miss more since they always have double the picks. I hope this guy is a late bloomer.

The ESPN article

is a bit ludicrous to me. I mean, there’s a lot to make fun of the Lions and Bills about, and I’m all for self-deprecating humor. But they’re making fun of the Rob Johnson trade? Really? Can they not find something more interesting to be insulting and uninformed about?
