Web Rumblings: Buffalo Bills News, 9/5
Merriman ready for regular season - BuffaloBills.com
"I think I am (ready)," said Merriman. "I’ve seen a lot of preseason games and I’ve been around long enough where I know how to prepare, so I don’t need to go out there and get 30 or 40 snaps in order to get ready for the season."
Inside The Bills | Chiefs QB could miss opener
"According to multiple reports Cassel may not be able to play Sunday due to a rib injury suffered in the Chiefs’ preseason finale against Green Bay, after Packers DT Howard Green took him down and landed on top of him with his full body weight."
Batten can finally breathe easy - The Buffalo News
"I'm not going to sit here and lie to you that I didn't lose any sleep," said Batten, who made the final cut on Saturday. "Every NFL football player loses sleep the day before cuts unless you're a select few guys."
Jets waive Maybin, claim 4 off waivers - NFL Wire - The Buffalo News
"Aaron Maybin came to the Jets hoping to jump-start his career after two lost seasons with the Buffalo Bills. It appears the former first-round pick will be looking to shed his label as a draft bust elsewhere."
Aaron Maybin: Bills bust, Jets treasure? - AFC East Blog - ESPN
"I was recently in Baltimore Ravens training camp and talked to receiver Lee Evans, who is Maybin's former teammate in Buffalo. Evans, an eight-year veteran and consummate professional, said he believes Maybin's maturity is finally getting to where it needs to be."
Jets cut Aaron Maybin, add four - AFC East Blog - ESPN
"Still, Maybin deserves credit for making the Jets' initial 53-man roster. That shows progress compared to what we've seen the past two seasons." It does?
This Day in Buffalo Sports History: Slip sliding away - The Buffalo News
The AAFC Buffalo Bills squandered a 21-point lead on this date in 1949. They never beat the Cleveland Browns. Maybe that's why the Browns joined the NFL and the Bills folded.
Rough Day For Former Bills & UB Alumni : Buffalo Sports Daily
"11 former Buffalo Bills got their walking papers Saturday from several teams scattered throughout the league. On that list is Coy Wire (Atlanta), Alvin Bowen (Denver), Sammy Morris (New England), Pierson Prioleau (New Orleans), Jamon Meredith (NY Giants), Ellis Lankster (NY Jets), Trent Edwards (Oakland), Anthony Hargrove (Philadelphia), Xavier Omon (San Francisco), Dominique Harris (Tampa Bay) and Derek Schouman (Washington). A few other former Bills players, most notably John McCargo (Tampa Bay) and James Hardy (Baltimore) were cut in advance of Saturday’s deadline."
NFP Sunday Blitz | National Football Post
Shawne Merriman is among the pre-season all-stars.
Lee Evans goes to Baltimore - Pro-Football-Reference.com
"I am a Lee Evans fan, but I won't argue that he's been good the past two years. I won't say that he's a complete receiver. I won't disagree if you say that better receivers would have posted better numbers in the Buffalo offense. I'll just note that Evans was a miserable fit in Buffalo, but a match made in heaven for the Ravens."
A.F.C. Scouting Report - NYTimes.com
"The other positive: the Bills have a relatively easy nondivision schedule. They should do better than their four wins last season, but it will be tough to make up ground on the Patriots or the Jets, although they could at least tie the Dolphins."
Twitter / @RavensInsider
"For rookie blocking TE Lee Smith, cut by Patriots and awarded to Bills off waivers, also got claims from 49ers, Bucs, Saints and Jets."
Nesbitt signed to Bills practice squad | Georgia Tech
"Former Georgia Tech quarterback Joshua Nesbitt was signed to the Buffalo Bills practice squad Sunday. He was one of a few former Yellow Jackets who found practice squad homes Sunday."

I think the A.F.C. Scouting report failed to mention the completely overhauled defense when they talked about the Bills “continuity”.

“Completely overhauled”? They’ve got three new starters.

Well, they have four, if you include Wilson who didn’t start last year (Dareus, Barnett, and Merriman). And that’s only in name, since they’re probably going to show different looks, and have changed positions of some impact players, like Moats and (hopefully an impact player) Carrington. Plus, since different defensive fronts require a lot of rotations, especially since we’ll be giving so many different looks, you also have to look at the depth on the defense, which looks considerably different than last year.

Wyannstedt
You’re forgetting our new defensive coordinator, he might not be a head coach, but he;s one of the best at defense!
Wyannstedt You’re forgetting our new defensive coordinator …
Dave Wannstedt is NOT the DC. He is Asst HC and Inside Linebackers Coach.
George Edwards is the DC.

Naaman Roosevelt
I’m pretty upset that the Bills cut NR, the guy has been the best route runner and most consistent ball catcher on our team for two years straight. He also broke nearly every NYS high school record as Quarterback at St. Joe.s and would have been an awesome weapon in a wildcat. I wish him well and hope he doesn’t come back to bite us!
I’m sure he won’t. I think the Bills were set with Wildcat guys, that’s not something they thought Naaman would be doing anyway. He just didn’t fit the mold of what they were looking for. If Roscoe goes down, and Roosevelt is still available, they might sign him back. There just wasn’t room on the roster for him, given Easley showing so much promise in the pre-season.
Another season (maybe), another year getting on the roller coaster. Hope the ride lasts more than 16 games :)
