Is it just me?
I don't know about any of you but when I get inundated with a ton of advertising about the same thing it almost has the opposite affect that the advertiser wants. For example when I see the same annoying commercial come on over and over again it begins to irritate me to the point that I wouldn't buy your product even if it was an anti fat pill and I looked like Jabba the Hut. So when I log onto Rumblings and I see not one, not two but count them 6 advertisements for degree, it is kind of an eye sore for me. I mean did Bear Grylls just buy stock in SBNation or something? The last time I saw that much overkill in advertising was when SBNation announced it's iphone deal. Even then one of their guys admitted it was a bit much but said it was only for a little bit. I guess he just meant that the iphone plug was limited, the eyesores will continue.
It makes me long for the days of the punching kitten......(p.s. by saying that I am really hoping that somebody posts one in the comments section)
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

It’s not just you. I actually subscribe to a few email lists that have begun to send stuff so often (like 3 times a day, every day) that I’m honestly thinking of unsubscribing – and one is an organization that I really like.

It's kinda the same reason I stopped watching NASCAR
I mean there are only so many times that you can hear a driver say,“Yeah we had the Chunky Soup, Preparation H, Sears, Coca-Cola, Piggly Wiggly, Off bug spray, Degree, Doritos, Chico’s Bail Bonds, Old Spice, Dodge running good today.” It is the blatant inundation of advertising that should make the person doing it feel like a trick who is being pimped out. It kinda sickens me.

you get annoyed by lots of ads
i cannot even buy the product (not that would buy anything linked to Bear Grylls anyway)
but i take the veiw that if being funded this way helps keep thr rumblings coming i can put up with it
"You are drunk, sir!" "And you are ugly, madame! But I will be sober in the morning!"
It has gotten increasingly annoying and is causing MUCH slower page loads for me…..you are reading my mind.

Thankfully, my adobe flash keeps crashing
and I have no intention of fixing the problem. Gray ad boxes with a crash message are way better than anything Bear Grylls is associated with.

It’s better than having to pay for this ish.
And also, the negative effect thing usually isn’t nearly enough to offset increased brand awareness, unless an ad is particularly repulsive. The subconscious is a powerful force.

The origins of the punching cat predate my time here…..I’m not going tie. I just searched for punching cat and read a lot of the comments dating pretty far back. You guys had a problem. A funny problem, but a problem nonetheless.

I can tell you this...
I may not buy the specific product being advertised (Degree Adrenaline) but if the company’s goal was to get people to notice the product, they succeeded.
I log on to Buffalo Rumblings every day, and I cannot remember a single advertisement that has ever been placed on this site. That is because they are typically various advertisements from various companies for various products with no link or connection to each other. My mind has been conditioned to ignore all these varied advertisements, and I suspect most of you internet users have been conditioned in a similar manner. The problem is, all us internet users know that the top, sides, and bottom of most web pages contain ad banners, so we just don’t look at those potions of the screen.
BUT, when I logged on today, my eyes were immediately bombarded with a pattern that my mind could not block out. Bear Grylls’ face, the words “Degree” and “Andrenaline”, and the blue, grey, and black color scheme were plastered all over the page. They were placed in the same spots where ads appear everyday, but because they matched, it was impossible to ignore them. It was literally the first thing I noticed about the site, before even the top headline.
So, whether or not I actually buy the product is inconsequential. Degree wanted to get the message across that they want me to buy Degree Adrenaline, and they got that message to me loud and clear.
That is how advertising works.
An you may be annoyed now...
but think about this:
A week from now you are at the grocery store doing routine shopping. You stop in the deodorant section to pick up your brand like you always do, but while searching for it, you also see Degree Adrenaline on the shelf. You know your brand, like your brand, and fully intend to buy your brand. BUT, as your eyes pass over the Degree Adrenaline, you remember your annoyance over having Bear Grylls’ face plastered all over your favorite non-porn website. Despite that annoyance, are you telling me that you’re not at least a little curious about how it smells? Don’t you think you’ll at least take the cap off and smell it in the store?
I don’t doubt your ability for spite, sireric. Even if you take that whiff and LOVE the smell, I don’t doubt that you’ll stick with your old brand out of principle. However, not everyone will be as spiteful as you.
How many times do we go into the deodorant isle, ignore every other brand on the shelf, and grab our brand without a second thought? It’s because our minds have not created any sort of memory or connection with the other brands. But now that we’ve all been exposed to this barrage of Degree Adrenaline on Buffalo Rumblings, our minds won’t be able to block it out on the shelves. And when we notice it, some of us won’t be able to resist the curiosity to smell it. And of those who break down and smell it, a few are going to like it. And of the few who like it, some won’t be spiteful. Those are the people who will buy it.
This shotgun blast of advertising from Degree is doing exactly what it’s meant to.

The barage of ads drives me bonkers also
It’s mainly just because it causes the site to load soooo much slower at work. So know I’m even less productive at work since the pages take longer to load. Thanks SBN…..
Seriously though, the same ad does make it an eye sore. Definately.
For Firefox Users
Not trying to be some software advocate here, but if you use the Mozilla Firefox browser, I highly recommend the Adblock Plus Add-on. It eliminates all website ads and makes the page load that much faster. Plus when you’re checking at work, it’s always good to not have Degree banners on your monitor

This.
Chrome has it too: ad block

Yep – thanks a ton! Loads much faster now. To be honest, I never really noticed any of the ads, just how long the page took to load.

I find it very disturbing to have Bear staring at me like that. He looks ticked off.
Try being one of the few girls on a site of mostly guys. The ads suddenly feel very misplaced.
"...and dance by the light of the moon!"
Hahahahaa....try being a guy when a commerical for Tampax comes on :-)

Really, really unhappy to see what has replaced him:
