Mike Mularkey named Jaguars Head Coach
Mike Mularkey has been reportedly hired as the next Head Coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
I thought Mularkey got a kind of raw deal in Buffalo, so I'll be watching him closely in Jacksonville to see how he does.

????
JP Losman (1st round- from TULANE?), Lee Evans (okay, we needed a WR, and he was a good one, and we made a move, but ultimately, the fact that we lost our future first which led to…..) Roscoe Parrish?
not exactly addressing needs, when the line consisted of the likes of Jason Peters (under development and technically a TE at the time), Jonas Jennings, and the rest of the junk that I have forced myself into forgetting (ugh.. mike williams) and they also failed to recognize how good Travis henry was, and look how all that worked out (of course, his greatest talent was fathering illegitimate children…) Mularkey (how fitting is this guy’s name?) failed because of his need to run stupid gadget plays.

He also is the only Bills coach to have had a winning season in over a decade.
Did I mention the tank is a tank?
junk.
you can cling to that tidbit if you like.
9-7 and no playoffs= i don’t personally care
i just am underwhelmed (irritated?) by the guy, and i consider myself a relative Falcons fan… but I personally attribute this last playoff loss, and past ones, from poor play calling. I don’t know why they ran Turner so little. Perhaps if they had run him more, they could have sustained drives. He is like their Fred Jackson. I thought it was just stupid. 15 attempts in a playoff game, where he has been one of the most consistent runners? what did he call Chan for advice before the game? ; )

As a fantasy owner of Turner this year, I know there was a very good reason why Atlanta was using him less this season.
The wear has finally caught up to him. Turner faded down the stretch this year (except for a nice week 17) and was averaging less than 4.0 yards per carry for most of the season.
The lowlight had to be when Atlanta played Jacksonville on Thursday night, was up by 35 or 40 points, and still Turner was running into walls for 0 or 1 yard gains. I think he finished with 60 yards that night.

5th in total fantasy points for a RB is bad?
Sorry… but that kills all of my running backs, who were Ryan Mathews (i am a chargers fan too, and grabbed Andre Johnson, and Rivers as my first two picks), Michael Bush (free agency) and CJ Spiller (who obviously I cut and picked back up when Fred was injured.)….. i mean, there were worse guys to be having. Perhaps you chose to use him in the wrong games, I really don’t know. but he was one of the best backs in fantasy.

2 lesean mccoy 270
3mjd 249
4foster 238
5turner 203
notably, of course, other guys would likely have been ahead of them, if not for injury… but fact is… he was 5th, averaging 1237 points a game- same as Marshawn Lynch actually. arian was 14.9, ray was 17.7 etc etc.

actually mathews was 9th
but still… i think turner was only hindered when Julio was scarfing points from him.

If I’m not mistaken didn’t he walk out on us and not the other way around?

Yes. Ralph actually wanted to extend him, but he had already fired Donahoe, so Mularkey left too. IIRC.
maybe Mularkey saw that the talent was lacking so he got out while he still had a chance to save his reputation.
Maybe us fans were too harsh on the guy. And his kids were getting ridiculed in school for it as well… This is what the news reported. The guy takes us as close to the playoffs as anyone, and we push him out of town.
Let’s not do that again.
But than again, we could be SD and fire Marty Schottenheimer after going 14-2

Wasn’t it Greg Williams kids who were ridiculed in school. If I recall that was the reason for Donahoe saying “I’m ashamed to be a part of this community” and also leading to Jeremy White’s strangest on air moment
Regardless, the fact it happened at all is absurd.

He
was getting forced to fire staff member’s, by the incoming FO.

How did he get a raw deal?
He resigned as coach shortly after Levy declared that he would be back as coach. Leading to the awkward 2nd Marv Levy press conference (and 3rd overall if you count the firing Donahue conference). I get that it might have been best for all involved, but resigning from you job is hardly getting a raw deal.
Plus, in the clutch he was always too cute by 1/2. That fourth down QB sneak with an empty backfield is a good example. I was watching exasperated. Was he a bad coach? No….but his resigning probably just delayed the inevitable b/c of the team’s awful drafting in the Levy era.

Well, the scuttle-butt was Levy demanded he change certain aspects of his staff. Mularkey disagreed. I think Mularkey also saw the writing on the wall since he probably got the impression Levy didn’t love him. IF you want a guy to quit, just start making him do all sorts of unconscionable things. Also, don’t put a real GM in, put in a fgurehead, that will get the guy excited to make use of all that talent that will start rolling in the door.
Yes, he would have been somewhat screwed no matter what because of drafting, but at least we might not have been drafting under-sized linebackers in a misguided effort to build a Tampa-2 defense.
I have low expectations. But high hopes.

We say his play calling and "offensive" mind, I use that term lightly...
Tthe only thoughts I had during the Altlanta playoff game is “this is how Mularky runs his offense and teams want him as a head coach”. They could not get any offensive points.
I’ll be watching him closely in Jacksonville to see how he does.
I know how he’ll do: he’ll suck.
There are some coaches who are better at being coordinators and simply are not cut out for the NFL HC postion {e.g., Gregg Williams, Wannstedt, Norv Turner, Jauron, Dick LeBeau, Martz} Mularkey is one of them.
All this talk about how he “got a raw deal here” is, in a word, bullsh*t.
As mentioned above, the FO wanted to bring him back, under the condition that certain assistants had to go. Ho chose to be loyal to his assistants, so . . .
Hell, Mularkey can thank the ego of Tom Donahoe for even GETTING a look at HC in the first place: since Donahoe lost the power struggle in PIT to Cowher, while he was here he was determined not to hire any head coaches with strong personalities that might pose a threat to his position; hence, hiring back-to-back coordinators as first-time head coaches [Williams and Mularkey] . . .
Besides, didn’t Mularkey once take the team out for cheeseburgers to celebrate a win? Way to maintain fitness and conditioning during the season, coach . . .
Mularkey and Poz can both enjoy the suck in JAX, it’s an appropriate place for them to both land . . .
.

What owner would hire an O coordinator after he completely barfed in a playoff game.
Matter of fact, he sucked all year. He had so much talent on the team and didn’t produce.

I'm rooting for him
I give him credit, when we hired Marv Levy, he knew it would be a fiasco, and he knew it was an indication of how poorly Ralph chose GMs. I think most of us thought Marv would turn things around, but instead he set us back half a decade.
Since Marv laid an egg, we’ve had Russ Brandon (yikes) and Buddy as our GMs. Why would you want to work under them? A good coach wants a strong GM who will get him talent.
I've said it before and I'll say it again
DON’T GIVE ME THAT MULARKEY!
