OT or OLB in the draft?
Hey, everyone. I'm here from GGN, the Jets blog, to ask you guys a question. a lot of recent mocks have you guys picking Courtney Upshaw in the draft, but earlier they were having you guys take an offensive tackle. what're everyone's thoughts on what you guys will pick? as a jets fan, i hope you go for an offensive tackle, as i REALLY want Upshaw... thanks in advance, Caeden

Both of them are possible (OT and OLB).
But from what Buddy has said about what he’s looking for in an OLB (prototypical size and speed) I would personally rule out Upshaw, mainly for the speed factor. Although I should also say that many on here will disagree with me.
That said Nix is looking for another Shaun Merriman type OLB, and Upshaw definitely does NOT fit that mold. I personally really like Whitney Mercilus. He fits the size (6’4" 265lbs) and speed (reported as being in the late 4.5’s) and a verity of moves and a proven sack machine (16 sacks, 22.5 TFL) in 2011. But that is just my opinion and many here will disagree as well.
As for OT, Both Martin and Reiff would be great fits, but that has been zero indication on which Nix and Gailey would like better.

I do not usually participate in any mock draft stuff at this point in time due to FA having a pronounced effect on team needs.
Stevie Johnson potentially could leave, creating an additional hole to be filled. Lots of others.
Bills generated very little pass rush in any game outside of beating the ’skins. Biggest need team-wise right now is acquiring players to help in this area.
.
When the job is finished no one remembers how long it took, just how well it was performed.

I HIGHLY doubt we take an OT on the 1st.
Like HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt it. OLB or WR if I had my druthers.

Why do you doubt that (out of curiousity)?

Sure.
I think we may be good at tackle, especially if we can re-sign Bell for a reasonable price. I also am not as impressed with the top end talents at OT in the draft as I am with the other top end talents at positions of need.
Also I just not think it’s Nix’s modus operandi to pick a OL at #10. Good ol boy wants a playmaker there.

I see below that you found an example of Nix taking an OL early, so I stand slightly corrected.
I still don’t see it happening with this team.

I don't see the Bills taking Upshaw at 10
he just doesn’t seem to have value.
But if you want to start a very good back-and-forth and amicable conversation without any chance of controversy you should make a poll asking if we want Ryan Tannehill :)
Da'Jon McKnight - WR, Nick Toon - WR, Marvin McNutt - WR, Dan Persa - QB, Russell Wilson - QB, Whitney Mercilus - DE, Melvin Ingram - DE/OLB, Jared Crick - 3/4 or 4/3 DE, Alshon Jeffery - WR, Michael Floyd - WR, Ryan Tannehill - QB

The only three positions I would be surprised to see the Bills
take in the first round, are Running back, guard, and center
flayed ones stealth mode
"Fleshling! Do not shoot! For I am one of you fleshy things. It is I. Your Uncle Stan. Can't you tell by the long strips of fleshy substances covered in bodily fluids? Trust me! I have fleeeeeeeeesh."
better add kicker and punter to the list....just to be safe :-)

Really?
are Running back
This team has some strange running back fetish where we have to take one every few years. I wouldn’t be shocked if went RB at all and traded Fred for a 4th rounder.

A running back fetish? Really?
So because we once drafted a RB in the top ten (Spiller) while having two other good RB’s on the team, one which we knew would be gone by the end of the year (Lynch) and one that at the time was thought to be a backup at best (Jackson), this team has a running back fetish?
Gimme a break!

Both are needs.
DE/OLB is a much more pressing need. And Nix has never been one to take an OL high in the draft.
I think the mocks had OTs early because that’s about where most have the Iowa and Stanford OTs ranked. I think that will shift over time.
And Nix has never been one to take an OL high in the draft.
I’m not sure I agree with that.

And if there’s one thing we’ve learned from Nix is don’t expect anything, So if he really likes Martin or Reiff, he’ll take one of them.

I think the 10 spot is good for us.
Dont’a Hightower,Quinton Coples,Dre Kirkpatrick,Luke Kuechly,Michael Floyd,Morris Claiborne
if Trent Richardson is there...
Buddy would take him. I see us taking a “playmaker” at #10, so WR, TE, RB and OLB fit that. Maybe even a CB.
