Reviewing Fitz's first year...
Fitzpatrick ranked sixth in the NFL in pass attempts this past season with a career-high 569. Only Drew Bledsoe (610) in 2002 threw more in a season in team history. In his 36 starts for the Bills from 2009-2011 when Fitzpatrick attempts 30 or more passes Buffalo is 3-16. When he attempts fewer than 30 passes in a game the Bills are 11-5.

That statistic strikes me as more circumstantial than anything. Fitzpatrick is throwing fewer passes when they’re winning because the Bills are ahead and running the ball to kill the clock.

Just like any stats that ends with… “when Fred Jackson carries the ball 25 or more times.”

The point I take from it is that Gailey needs to rethink his pass-first approach when by most accounts, his QB is average. Add to that the fact that on his roster he has one superstar RB and another who showed the ability to break a big run at anytime and it’s easy to see why people are frustrated with his decision to regularly abandon the run.

What Gailey needs to do is get his offense to move the ball and score points. I don’t care how he does it. Then, when we have a lead, milk the clock. It’s an age-old practice, and I couldn’t care less about the 30+ passes or 25+ runs stat. :)

Well sure, but ...
We all know Fitzpatrick has his limitations as a passer. I certainly don’t think it’s out of the realm of reason to question whether an approach that had us run more early would benefit Fitzpatrick (and obviously the team).

I couldn't care less about passes or runs either
However, I do care about wins and when Fitz throws 30+ attempts we are 3-16. There was also talk in there about most of Fitz’s interceptions coming when he threw 30+ attempts.
Now a REALLY interesting analysis would be HOW CIRCUMSTANTIAL is this? How much did they throw the ball when they were within one score (0-7 points)? How much did they throw when they were tied or had the lead?
I guess I’m doing a “what a great analysis this would be…..wink wink”….

Sure, the stats are beside the point but what is debatable is whether Gailey is wrong in his thinking that his best chance to move the ball and score is on the arm of Fitz.

Come on Brian you know as well as I do that Gailey likes to throw the ball even when they lead....he's a pass first guy all the way.
Not that there is anything wrong with it, but there is that old saying about throwing a pass means 4 possible outcomes and 3 of them are bad.
The score dictated they pass
