Poll...Will the Bills resign Stevie Johnson?

With the season over again, its time to look for whats ahead. For most of us this time a year, we spend our times on Mock draft sites, looking at future college prospects and trying to figure out who would be best for our team. We usually don't bother talking about FA because most of the time we are not competitive in that area. FA becomes more of a dream to most of us as we throw around names like Vincent Jackson and Mario Williams.

The bigger deal here is regarding our very own. We have seen plenty of former Bills go on to have great careers. A bunch of them are still in the hunt for the Superbowl...and former coaches. You guys know the names I don't have to tell you. My question is, are we about to let go another future star? Whether you like him or not, Stevie is an up and coming talent. He is quietly become one of the best WR in the game. No, he is not the fastest guy, but he is elusive and gets open. I wen't to a bunch of games this year, and watching his route running was fun. He is better the Lee Evans ever was. Lee was just a very fast guy that could run fade and Go routes. He had to capabilities after the catch. Stevie has all of this and more. I hear a lot of people say "get rid of him, he is a clown." But can we really afford to loose him? We do not have another sufficient starter at the position...Drafting a WR in the first round has proves to be very risky. And its likely the guy wouldn't come in and be a star. Blackmon is probably your only sure fire thing and he will be long gone before we pick. Bottom line, we "NEED" to keep Stevie. However, I don't believe the Bills will retain him. If he walks, it will once again leave me scratching my head asking the question I always ask..."does this franchise really care about winning?" I really have liked what Nix has done. His last draft was probably the best out of all the drafts last year, or at least in the top 5. I wan't to hope we are going in the right direction, but if they let Stevie walk, I will really question them...We were ok to give Fitz 60 million. I would much rather have that money going to Stevie as of right now. Time will tell, but I have a feeling they let him walk. Your thoughts?

There's no doubt that they SHOULD retain Stevie...

but Buffalo sports in general has a history of letting talent leave. I know it’s a completely different organization, and it’s not fair for me to hold it against the Bills, but the Sabres letting Briere and Drury walk has me absolutely terrified that the Bills will let Stevie walk. It seems like that’s just what happens in Buffalo.

Thats why I question if their intention is to win…I know they are not totally cheap, but they are not smart with their money. Building through the draft is fine, but if you think of it, that is the cheaper way of doing. Retaining guys and signing free agents costs more money than hoping to strike gold on a 4th round pick for 700k a year. It just baffles me though on how quick they dish out millions to guys like fitzpatrick and Kelsay. Kelsay would have never seen half of that money on any other team, and now they are questioning themselves about a guy like stevie who is about 100x more talented at his position. Its confusing, and part of the reason we haven’t seen the post-season.

can we wait on the negative

Until Nix fails to resign him??? In the 2 years he has been here, who has left that we should have kept? Or matched the price they got elsewhere? This team had such little talent on it.
This is his first big test. Let’s see how he does.

TO

That being said, I’m actually a big Nix supporter. I’m just scared that the worst is going to happen because I’m a Buffalo fan.

I have to vote yes

Because if they don’t, then I will have lost a LOT of faith in this front office.

Hate to say it, but my status is a fan will certainly be affected by how the Bills’ handle this. I feel strongly that this is a MUST signing, so the front office better put forth their BEST effort at resigning SJ.

I voted NO

No way both sides are telling the truth about what has happened during the negotiations so far. CHIX seem to be talking out both sides of their mouth. This situation seems headed for disaster. IMO, CHIX want Stevie to hit the open market so he will get a big offer and they have an excuse not to sign him……same tactic they used with Poz.

Haha I love all the conspiracy theorists out there. Not saying you’re wrong but losing Poz and gaining Barnett wasn’t exactly a loss for this team. Poz just wasn’t what we needed for that price. Plus they can’t control what someone gets offered on the open market. They can only look each player and determine what that player is worth to the Bills.

maybe
losing Poz and gaining Barnett wasn’t exactly a loss for this team

But when we lost Poz, we didn’t have Barnett yet….and

they can’t control what someone gets offered on the open market.

Yes you can…you offer them a decent contract before they hit the market.

They can only look each player and determine what that player is worth to the Bills.

Since this team is so devoid of talent, shouldn’t they be worth more to the Bills? We got rid of Evans. If Stevie leaves, who is our #1 WR?

Oh how people forget the facts.

In regards to Poz the Bills were limited, by the previous CBA, to how much of a “raise” they could give him while under contract. They wanted to give him more, and that’s why they had to wait for FA.

If that is true, then you are correct....I don't remember that, but

there should be no such issue with Stevie now should there?

Perfectly normal that Chix would keep the truth close to their vest at this point, they are still negotiating. I never believe anybody before the deal is done!

I have to believe that they do effectively want to resign him. I personally think they are simply doing their due diligence here. No reason to rush into anything at this point. I think they are finalizing their draft board to get a feeling for the possibility of getting a receiver in the draft. Sure maybe a decent receiver can be available but what would we be giving up?

Second, they are also looking at the Free Agent market to see what could be available there. They need to figure out how much Stevie is actually worth to them. I think Stevie really got under their skin with his repeated infractions and they want to explore every opportunity to improve the team another way. I think in the end they will realize how important he is to our team. I’m sure that they will target VJ in FA but the question they need to answer is are they willing to waste a high draft pick on a receiver (and lose out on the other potential picks at that spot) just to avoid having to deal with Stevie’s eccentric ways? I’m not sure this team can afford to do that. Plus they also know that there is no guarantees with draft picks, just look at Easley. So in the end I believe that they will make Stevie an offer that he will accept.

but if they dont. Nix said they would need 2 WRs. So Vincent Jackson and Marques Colston?

Not sure on that.

They have so many weapons.

Moore, Henderson, Meachum, Sproles, Graham, Ingram, Thomas, Ivory.

I could see them letting Colston walk.

I hate that I love Buffalo.

The saints will first resign Brees and then resign his favorite target in colston and might let meachum walk

I'd love to say yes, I really would. But I can't.

I mean i think that they should re-sign him, but I’ve become a pessimist at heart.

this team can do that to a person

In case you didn’t notice, I escaped from Revis Island. I am currently waiting for a your boat (load of cash) to come and bring me home…..or should I just take the next one to come along?

SJ

IMHO he won’t be signed. RW comments alone make me feel that way. RW is like a little birdie, cheap, cheap, cheap. IMHO and no offense to anyone on blog. I don’t dislike SJ or RW.

look at this way, let’s say they don’t re sign stevie, but they go out and sign V-Jax, and Meachem.

How would you feel in this hypothetical. I’m just asking out of curiosity btw.
