Bills GM Buddy Nix Delays Post-Season Presser By A Week

Buffalo Bills GM Buddy Nix was scheduled to answer questions from reporters on Monday morning, but informed those reporters today that he'll delay that post-season press conference by a week. If you're looking for answers from Nix on the coaching and personnel questions we've been pondering every day for two months, you'll (perhaps) get them next Monday.

Nix also told reporters (as relayed by BuffaloBills.com) exactly what he'll be up to for the next week. To summarize: today, he'll be meeting individually with players, who are cleaning out their lockers and taking a post-season break. Tomorrow, he'll meet with head coach Chan Gailey and his coaching staff. Wednesday and Thursday will be dedicated to personnel meetings with his pro and college scouting staffs, and on Friday, he'll sit down with team owner Ralph C. Wilson, Jr.

Only after all of that is accomplished - and after a weekend of NFL playoff football has completed - will Nix talk with reporters, at which point any and all questions are fair game. Hang tight, Bills fans. Answers - or, rather, responses to questions - are coming.

Hoping that we forget how bad his big signing, Fitzpatrick, played in the last game of the season before he talks to the press…

How did Fitzy play bad?

We were up 21-0 then Chan pulls his #1 target and he is left throwing to Derek Hagan, Naaman Roosevelt, David Nelson and Ruvell Martin. Peyton Manning would struggle throuwing to these guys!

Really?

Did you watch the game? Short throws on the sideline routes? The horrific 5 yard out for the first pick?

Gah, his accuracy after the first quarter was terrible.

by EvilJohn on Jan 2, 2012 2:06 PM EST up reply actions

so after he leads this team to a 21-0 lead it's his fault the team collapses

Look Fitzy is not perfect, but he has proven time and time again he can get the job done, now imagine he was throwing to really talented route runners and guys that don’t deflect every pass right to the defense. I’m no Fitzy lover, nor am i a hater but he has been signed long term and we need to get used to that!

A bit more to it than Fitzy

If I remember correctly we drove, scored, drove, drove, scored, drove scored, drove, tooka nasty sack (not one that was on Fitzy), drove, had a stupid penalty kill the drive, had someone with a club foot miss a field goal (and it sure wasn’t the guy who kicked sixty yards … must be I am getting old, his name elludes me), then a dropped pass and someone forgets to call C. J.s number for quite awhile before we were behind. And I’ll tell you boneheads like J2 something else (man, I hope he starts taking his meds ….. I take mine. It feels good not pull a Joe Blftxque every day!) when we were healthy we were one of the better teams in the league. Good God, we are on our third KICKER!

Yes, there is hope.We are making progress. No its not perfect. Nothing is. I wish we could give Bill Polian half the club and get him back here.

I agree that some of the throws were crappy.........

…….. but some were awesome.
Plus, Fitz doesn’t play defense.

Our defense got embarrassed. They lost the game.
Not Fitz.

wow

So 21 points is acceptable against that Patriots defense? I’m guessing that before the game anyone would have said the offense needed to score at least 35 to win, which isn’t some sort of accomplishment considering how bad the Patsies defense is. Fitz failed just like the defense did.

actually Peyton didn't struggle

throwing to no names, last year he was throwing to guys like Blair White and they still made the playoffs and almost beat the Jets. And his brother Eli has been throwing to no names all year and they are also in the playoffs. You can put the Spiller tip down to his receivers but there was more than just that pick and there has been a lot more int’s in the last 9 weeks to blame exclusively on the WR’s.

Eli hardly throws to no-name players. Cruz was considered one, but that’s about it.

I would

Coming into this season there was Nicks and Manningham and Manningham was injured much of the year. Sure you could say they unearthed a superstar in Cruz but I think a lot of credit should go to Eli.

Why would they hire Mike Nolan when Dave Wannstedt is on the coaching staff right now and more than qualified?

by MattRichWarren on Jan 2, 2012 1:10 PM EST up reply actions

Could be that Dave doesn't want to be the DC becasue he is happy with his current role as assistant HC and LBs coach?

I don't thing Wannstedt is the man for the job.

He is on the staff right now and I bet he had plenty of input as to what went on on the field this year. He’s done a good Job with Sheppard and Barnett and needs to just stay put. We need a new scheme, plain and simple a new mentality, the mentality to punish the QB.

Spagnulo just was fired, Raheem Morris was just fired, Mike Singletary is available who knows if Romeo will still be in KC after this (even though he deserves that job).

Buddy did the right thing by pushing this back now he needs to do the right thing and remove his DC from his position.

But bringing back Bill Polian would be the best thing to happen to this franchise since he left. I doubt he would come back, and I doubt Ralph would be willing to admit he was wrong and bring him back, but the man is able to turn franchises around like no other. How awesome would it be if he came back!

This isn’t a knock on Buddy, either, but Polian is the man. Hopefully the Bills take another step forward next year and push for the playoffs in 2013.

Why?

Bill Polian built the Bills that went to 4 Super Bowls. Some people in Indy are complaining because he “hasn’t been good in the last few drafts” – well the Colts have been at the bottom of the draft because they’ve been such a good team. The Colts were a joke until he went there… and he put together a big-time winner. Wherever he goes next, I bet they will be a winner too. Buddy Nix is not gonna get us Super Bowl talent, IMHO. Let’s get Polian back – he’s a true pro.
