Lee Evans
Just curious what everyone thinks about our season ( now that its over) not having Lee Evans. Unfortunately i didn't get to see him play in any of the ravens games but i hope he did well. Anyways, do you think our team would have had more success and potentially made the playoffs if we had him stretching the field? Was it a bad move letting him go or not? Do you think having him kept Scuba Steve in check? I love Stevie and hope we keep him btw.
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

Sure, Evans WAS a deep threat…then fitzy became our starter. evans needed a qb that could accurately throw the long ball, or a qb that threw the long ball period. that just isn’t fitzy’s style, and it also isn’t chan’s coaching style either.
If we had evans this season, we would see him with minimal production based on our offensive scheme AND his health. he didn’t play in a lot of the ravens’ games because he was hurt—would have been the same with us.
all in all, good move to trade him (however I feel he should have been worth more than a 4th rounder). we’ll get a potential starter with that 4th rounder and someone who will cost way less.
Unfortunately i didn’t get to see him play in any of the ravens games but i hope he did well.
Evans was injured almost the entire season. You didn’t miss much.
Some of the Ravens fans think they got hosed in that trade.

When the job is finished no one remembers how long it took, just how well it was performed.

That's because they did. get hozed.
To paraphrase an recent fanshot that was posted here. We had a high end car that was aging. The Ravens wanted one and we’re hoping for a steady decline in production (a la Ray Lewis). Instead they totally forgot to look at the odometre and got a lemon.
So kudos to Chan and Nix for spotting it before any one else did.

This
Lee Evans has been a huge disappoiment. He has been targeted 27 times and only has 4 catches for 74 yards to show for it. When he has been healthy and on the field he has dropped very catchable passes. I was very excited at the possibility of Lee Evans opposite Anquan Boldin. I wish the Ravens could nix the trade (pun intended) and send Evans back to Buffalo.
I saw the play toward the end of the game Sunday where he dropped one that he definitely should have had. I am not going to lie, I snickered a little bit.

We actually hosed someone? Nice, just wish it wasn’t the Ravens that we hosed, and would hosed the Pats, Jets or Dolphins.
Are we drafting Dino's now?

My thing with Evans:
He has some use in the league, but he’s largely a one trick pony and Chan called him out on it before the season. The Ravens were playing (perhaps against the Chargers) on Sunday night a few weeks back. I said to my wife “Hey, that’s Lee Evans on the top of the screen. I bet he just runs deep straight ahead”….he did…they threw it to him….pass broken up. On the next play, I chuckled and said “hey, that’s Lee Evans on the top of the screen. I bet he just runs deep straight ahead”…he did…they threw it to him…safety got over and broke it up and Baltimore punts. He is not a guy who fits into this offense, so I’m glad they got what they could for him. I don’t necessarily buy the “Ha, he got hurt so it’s good they traded him” argument b/c he might not have gotten hurt here, but this isn’t like some of the other players who’ve been traded away. Lee Evans is awful catching 50/50 balls (or even breaking them up), he’s bad at catching passes in traffic, and he isn’t that great at catching passes on slant patterns…so….
Thanks for all you did here Lee, but you just didn’t fit anymore. It honestly wouldn’t surprise me to see him as a Jet. Half their offense is throwing the deep ball and hoping it is caught (unlikely) or hoping for a PI penalty (much more likely).
Thank you thank you thank you thank you sireric for bringing the furious punching cat back into my life. - poz

Evans is (was) a great deep threat, true, but he’s little else.
He is not a good fit at all for Chan’s vertical timing offense. And this fantasy that he would have opened up routes for Stevie had he played this year is bunk. Combine Stevie and David Nelson’s production, and you get roughly the same production as the Evans/Johnson combination had last year.
if we can get a guy with speed AND the ability to get open in the short and intermediate routes as well, it would help the team immensely. Lee Evans was not that guy.

I feel bad for Lee...
Because the tail end of his prime was wasted with Trent Edwards and Fitz who couldn’t get him the ball down the field, which is what he needed to be more than a podestrian receiver. Before that he had Losman, who could do it on occasion, but not consistently. If Drew Bledsoe had been 26 when Lee was drafted rather than 32, he would have had a much better career.
But the 2011 Bills had no use for an aging deep threat receiver and they obviously weren’t getting a big-armed accurate starting QB before Lee was completely shot, so no the decision to trade him wasn’t a bad one.

HOW DID THEY GET HOSED
Next yr he can come back very healthy and be super productive in that offense,, just cuz he was hurt all yr dont mean they got hosed,, i bet anyone 1,000 dollars that that trade in the long run weather its the playoffs or next yr will benefit the ravens!!!
I'll take that bet.
If for no other reason than the fact that his salary will most likely get him released this summer. Should i e-mail over a paypal account?

lol
ok i just have a feeling he had a naggin injury this year, he looked great in that offense in preaseason i know its just preaseason, but when healthy next to boldin i think he can be a difirence maker… anyway only time will tell. its not like hes 35yrs old. i thhink hes 31 right?
Evans just turned 30 this year...
…and he never took big hits during his career. He’s still got a lot of tread on those tires.
