Quinton Coples next Julius Peppers
i watching a Mock and they had him coming to us at number 10. Which this wasnt the first time i have seen a mock like that. but what i found interesting was that they made NFL player comparisons. they had Andrew Luck as the next Aaron Rodgers which i would say is fair. but Coples at 6'6 285lbs he has the tangibles to be a Julius Peppers but does he have the motor that everyone is questioning? id like to know what you guys think of this ill supply a link to the mock

i cant even begin to take that guy seriously…
luck reminds him of rodgers
RGIII reminds him of newton
kalil reminds him of long
claiborne – haden
blackmon – bryant (cmon, really?)
kirkpatrick – asomugha (where in gods name did that come from?)
jeffery – v. jack
still – kevin williams
he does this all the way to the end, at pick 28 he compares ronnell lewis (6’2 240) to tamba hali (6’3 275). it goes on and on and on..
i guess this is the best draft class ever because apparently every single first rounder in 2012 is an all pro.
Its fun to think quarterback, but i think the odds of nix taking one in the first are close to 0%.
yeah true i wonder what the last draft class would have looked like? what would Marcell have been compared to i wonder
lol
agree completely blackmon doesnt even have the same skill set bryant does… blackmon could be the next anquan boldin though?

Exactly boomsauce. Just crazy comparisons. Coples is a power player who has nowhere near the elite athletic ability that Peppers does. If Coples had that kind of athletic ability, he’d be a top 3 pick, regardless of college production. But he’s nowhere close to Peppers as an athlete.

take away
The needless comparison, and I still like him. I’ll take him or mercilus.

Let's make a little no money bet
I say Coples has a monster week at the Senior Bowl, blows up the combine, and gets himself drafted high. Then he busts. Motivation to actually play football for the love of the game isn’t a switch. Watching Coples play is watching someone that doesn’t care.
You’ll take him.
Regardless of who he goes to, let’s see how he is in three years.
I wouldn’t touch him in the first round.

bust or not
i am definitely going to remember this bet….

why do you think
He has no motivation?

Yes
I don’t think he’s motivated to play football the way someone like Mario Williams is. Same skill set in many ways. Williams wants to play football. I’m not sure about Coples.
Again, it’s all about access. I will never answer this question now, because I can’t talk to Coples.

i just dont see anyone saying why
what has he done to deam this tag?
It is easy to say he is unmotivated, but where is the proof or justification?

the proof is in the tape. coples very obviously gave up at a number of times this year. if you watch him its clear hes just going thru the motions.
if im running an NFL team, there would not be room for a single guy on my roster who doesnt absolutely love the game of football and give it their all
Its fun to think quarterback, but i think the odds of nix taking one in the first are close to 0%.
Watch a full game, and see how much effort he gives
I get a bunch of UNC games living in Virginia. I was initially watching for Donte Paige-Moss, thinking Coples would be way too high for the Bills to pick. UNC rotated their linemen, so I had to watch to see where 98 was, which was Paige-Moss’ number.
Coples is 90. I started to think Paige-Moss wasn’t going hard, but he was, I just kept mixing up 90 and 98. Paige-Moss might be bad for a locker room, but he goes hard and has a good power rush game. Whenever I thought Paige-Moss was dogging it, I reversed the DVR, and rechecked numbers. It was always Coples.

Nooooooooooooo!
i wouldn’t go after him with someone elses draft pick let alone our number 10. No versatility and gives up on plays. Then put him in buffalo, a place where many players don’t want to be and it’s maybin or lynch all over again. go bills
agreed...Coples is no Pepper!
As a North Carolina resident, and Duke fan, who is forced to consume massive media overload of UNC propaganda, I promise you, Coples is not a top 10 draft pick, low first round at best, based on his college career. Any comparison with Peppers is ridiculous. I feel he is thought of so highly only because the class of which he is a member is so weak at his position. The Bills can get greater impact from several other players, some of whom would be available in rounds 2 and 3.
N.C. is an average football program but the last few years has had many players drafted by the NFL… Last year alone the Tar Heels had 9 players drafted, 4 in the first 2 rounds and the Bills drafted Search and White. How come that program wallows in mediocrity with so many players going to the next level. Are the players overrated or is the coaching bad?
How come I always get blamed for everything I do ?
Dennis the Menace
Big off-field issues involving players having contact with agents and allegedly receiving gifts, academic fraud, the list goes on.
UNC Ex-HC Butch Davis was a great recruiter by many accounts. Before the 2010 college season many predicted UNC could challenge for the NC game.
What a waste, and UNC is noted for running a clean program (50 yr since the time facing sanctions) so this was a surprise for many.

Put Coples in the right situation and you might be surprised
If you were to put him on a line that has more than 1 constant pass rusher, he will be motivated to get to the QB knowing he won’t be catching double and triple teams….its alot like Haynesworth…everybody said hes lazy and doesn’t wanna play because its true….NOW!
Remember when he was the most sought after free agent in the League!? 100 million dollar contract?? I agree its better to have Blue Collar players that give it their all every down, but realistically, your not gonna field 11 players of that caliber every sunday…

Haynesworth played well during “contract” years, not so much otherwise. Check his production vs contract years.
Being stuck in mid-TN I saw it and read about it frequently.

Its not about the contract…its about the situation he was in. Haynesworth was a rare player that lined up at defenseive tackle BUT was still a pass rusher!!! When Washington signed him to the contract they decided to make him a NT… destorying his pass rush and what made him so great!!! Do you think Tom Brady would be trying his best if I made him a Full Back?? hahahaha (ridiculous comparison I know)

I am going to guess this was in reply to my post just above.
I said look at Haynesworth’s contract years vs non-contract years while a member of the TITANS. That statement was based on this statement on the previous post:
… everybody said hes lazy and doesn’t wanna play because its true….NOW!
Ask Titan fans about his time there. You’ll get similar answers.

You still need to keep your players happy….this isn’t Madden

Again I’ll guess that this is a reply to the above discussion. If not pay no attention.
Back in February 2010 the Redskins FO told AH that they were going to a 3-4, and that they would trade/release him if he did not want to stay and be part of that plan. The elephant in the room was a $20M upcoming bonus that AH would miss out on if he was cut, or another team would have to pay if traded. After a short period of time AH decided to stay there, and accepted his money.
So AH had two probable options: stay and get his money or get cut and lose that money. Wash did not have to offer him a choice but they did and presumably did so to “keep him happy”, or at least to prevent a negative Wash image.
… this isn’t Madden
I’m somewhere in my mid-50s (“disremember” exactly) and do not play Madden, or any other video games. I’m just a big fan of real American football.

not unless he turns into julius peppers
I live in Raleigh area and have watched plenty of UNC games – Peppers was an absolute beast.
Coples had an average senior season and was not even noticeable on the field during games this year. Was non-existent at times and has no motor.
Did anyone else see
That Todd mcshaw say that Coples has been the most notible player at the senior bowl so far and he is dominating and is by far the best D linemen at the senior bowl.

@Buffalo for Eternity – if you wanna see Buffalo win the Superbowl like i do….you should start playing madden, and I’ll agree with you that it was AH’s fault for excepting the money…. it would be hard for me to turn that kinda of money down too though
@everyone else – so if not Coples whos the next best DE becuz it seems to be a toss up
