Web Rumblings: Buffalo Bills News, 1/29

San Francisco shows Buffalo how to get it done - Larry Felser
"The other big difference was that San Francisco's talent recruitment was far more stable than Buffalo's. Despite all the losing, the Niners kept rounding up genuine talent and nurturing it. Three of their starting offensive linemen were first-round draftees, two of them pro sophomores. Two of their young players, linebacker Patrick Willis and tight end Vernon Davis, are already superstars. Willis is the best linebacker in football. They may be joined by wide receiver Michael Crabtree, who blossomed this season."

Bills, Stevie Johnson not talking contract yet | ProFootballTalk
"Coming to agreement on a number for a long-term deal could be sticky, but it is hard to believe they wouldn’t use at least the franchise tag to ensure the first receiver in team history with consecutive 1,000-yard seasons stays in town."

regardless of 4-3 or 3-4 bills will keep 5 edge rushers in the team…. 3-4 means OLBs and 4-3 means DE…

out of them 2 will be starts and 3 will be backups…

right now we have kelsay and merriman as starts… moats, batten and eddins as backups (not considering the ridiculous spencer johnson)

both kelsay and merriman have been paid big money and not to just sit on the bench…
kelsay will not be cut from the team for some unknown reason…
merriman just had a second surgery… it is highly unlikely the bills will cut him after so much investment before even seeing how the surgery worked out…

so the fans can be in denial but the bills wont be players for pass rushers in the free agency… more likely as backups and in draft

If what you say is true and they’d be unwilling to pay for Williams and to add him to the mix (thus cutting subpar talent) then this team is even father away from the goals it should hope to attain. And it will continue to lose fans in the stadium.

$$$

You would think if Williams was open to coming to Buffalo they would dump Kelsay and Merriman and use that money towards Williams.

If they weren’t, then they’d truly be a joke of an administration.

It would take a whole lot more cash than that.

If Mario Williams hits the open market, he would probably get Julius Peppers or even more cash because he is only 26. and will turn 27 in 2 days.

Peppers got 6 years 91.5 Million with 42 million guaranteed, Williams would probably get more.

Does this sound like a contract the Bills would give out for 1 player?

I believe he meant that could be an added bonus to the Bills’ negotiation tactics.

Peppers got 91 million?! Still, I look at it as a 42 mil contract and likely paid over 4 years, and if out over 6, then only 7 mil a season. Loads of money to all of us, but not to the NFL.

40.8 million the first 3 years. Williams would probably require at least 50-55 million guaranteed over the first 3 years to sign him. That Peppers contract was 2 years ago And he was 3 years older than Williams when he signed it. Also the Peppers deal is actually turning out good for Chicago.

Williams.

He got 54 mil over his 6 year rookie contract. Pepper collected something like 30 million under the franchise tag in the 2 years before he signed with Chicago, so you know Williams will want a huge payday to come to Buffalo.
