Morning Joe! What Does Your Name Mean?
Good morning Bills Nation,
I hope you all a great weekend and enjoyed someof the "games" this weekend.
Last Thursday our Editor and Chief posted a a thread titled Where Camaraderie Is Born , which was designed to get us Rumblers to know one another a little bit better. It thought it was a great idea, as I learned something unique about each one of you.
So as I was reading through some of the comments that was left behind; I couldn't help to think "what's does these names mean"? I see names like J2, Port Royal, Der Jaeger, JLCrimm, bflo, sutek, stetzwebs, dyi, Goose22, SEARGANT MAJOR THOR, and the list goes on and on. Now these are some really cool names and I just wanted to know where you all come up with your names. Now some names are little obvious like, Brian Galiford and MattRichWarren, as I assume these are you guys real names; not some super cool alias. But if you like, you can give reasons why you were named what you were named.
Now I can't expect for you guys to tell me what your names mean, if I don't tell you what mine mean. So here we go!
Doctork44
No I'm not a doctor, but I could be. Everyone always come to me with their problems, so I've become a great listener. I give all types of advice, such as marital advice, financial advice, legal advice, and this year I'm quite sure I'll be doing some tax consulting :). The "K" is the first letter of my first name "Kent". The number 44 comes from an old football number where I played both high school and college ball, which I have tattooed on my chest. The name Doctork44 is a name that I've used sense my high school days, so it sort of stuck.
Okay Rumblers, it's your turn. What does your name mean?
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

Well you see Tim was the name of the guy who lived down the street from me. I’ve never met a bigger Bills fan in my entire life. In the early 90s he put up a huge Bills banner in front of his house. Thing was nearly the size of the house!
Ellis is for Ellis Island. So many great people have come through there that the great NFL players of today should really appreciate what Ellis Island did for the country.
Just kidding. My name is Tim Ellis. :-)
I have been wondering about some of your names though…
The first explanation is great though.

Born and raised in Buffalo but stuck near Nashville.
Loyalty is an admirable trait, and one I value highly. I am living in middle Tennessee to keep the wife happy (all the married guys know all about that aspect), but I am at heart still in WNY. Most of my charitable donations go to WNY entities, and I visit when I can.
I wear my Bills or Sabres gear year around. Aside from showing my loyalty to my teams it is a great way to meet other transplants, as well as general fans of either sport that look for good football or hockey conversation.
Hopefully when I get my last of five kids to move out then I can move back.

My name is the name of a short-lived web design “company” that I started to design my old boss’s website. It comes from my nickname (Stetz) based on my last name, combined with “webs” (for web design, clearly). It unfortunately has nothing to do with the Bills, but it was my throwaway Yahoo! ID, so I used it when I started posting here two years ago.
P.S. This is a very cool Morning Joe topic :)

Thanks
See I always just thought the “Stetz” part was about “Stats”..So I thought you were a stats guy…haha
It always reminded me of “Stetson.” You don’t like cowboy hats, do you? Or cologne? :-)

Suteck
I am a huge Doctor Who fan. Suteck was a god that he fought against and won. I loved that whole story arc. I am an avid Doctor Who fan even today. The new Doctor is okay, but, the writing is amazing.

I was born in Buffalo and my earliest memories include the Bills.
I was raised in many different states (Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and New York) but went to middle school and high school in Elma, NY. I left once again for college. I went to school in Baltimore, worked in DC, currently work in NYC, and have yet to find my way back to Western New York. But, my love for the Bills has never faltered (even at times when I wish it would). No matter where I am in the world, I follow the Bills, seek out other Bills fans, and watch every game.
The misspelling of Out of Towner was an idea I came up with when I joined Twitter. It is evidence that I am a big dork.

Like the idea here. Buffaloparks – born and raised in Buffalo (raised in Kenmore actually) and my last name is Parks. Quick and easy! Like several on this site I no longer reside in WNY, but use BR as a great way to keep up to date with my Bills. I now reside in the land of Tebow and at least we smoked the Broncos this year!

I was aspiring to become a history teacher a few years ago, but alas, plans changed, and have no found my true calling.
Anywho, I thought it would be clever to go by “Schooled You” for being a teacher, and as a little smack talk. I guess the name doesn’t fit so much anymore, but oh well.
Is this your homework, Larry?
two unrelated cities
The city of Port Royal was once the hub of all commerce and culture in the Carribbean Sea, but was practically wiped off the map instantaneously by an earthquake in 1692. The city tried over and over again to rebuild, but disaster after disaster destroyed their re-building attempts in the centuries to come. Fires, hurricanes, numerous pandemics, floods…the once thriving city kept getting knocked down every time they tried to get back on their feet due to a complete inability to plan accordingly for the dangers of the region. Another earthquake in 1907 basically liquified what little had been successfully rebuilt over the previous 200 years and today, Port Royal lacks any cultural or economic significance. In short, Port Royal reminds me of the Bills.
On the plus side, Port Royal is actually the name of the small Virginia community where the coward and villain, John Wilkes Booth, was finally hunted down and killed following a 12-day nationwide manhunt after he had murdered President Lincoln. Studying the Lincoln assassination plot has been a hobby of mine since college and I rate Booth as my most hated character in US history. So in that regard, this Port Royal represents the opportunity for redemption for the sad, sad franchise I used to enjoy so much.

Wish I had a good story but alas no such luck. I go by my middle name Robert thus the “Rob” and my last initial “B” from Burk. Maybe someday I will trade up for a more exciting name, but this one suits me just fine.

I guess I can pull a Galliford and say that the original meaning for my name has the following meanings:
Rob = Germanic origins hrod “fame”
B = abbreviation of Burk which has anglo-norman origins and means “from a fortified settlement”.

Thefourwinds was an expression I used when I first decided to start my own blog about 4 years ago – the blog topics were going to cover nearly every topic because I have diverse interests. Hence, topics from the four winds, which was an expression used in the Bible to indicate “from every corner of the earth.”
Now I use it as a screen name all over the internet.

On most guy-dominated sites it seems that a lot of ladies put an overt “chick” or “femme” or “girl” signifier in their handle, but in the beginning I was worried that some of the more neanderthal types might recoil at talking Bills with a girl. And precisely those types might not sound out that “k-eight” meant “kate.” Fortunately it turned out that I didn’t have anything to worry about :)

That evolved into Mango Juice.
Eventually I dropped the Mango after the SNL skits.

Love it.
Most bills fans can probably interpret my moniker. It refers to a particularly harrowing moment in Bills history, and the feeling that I get whenever I think about that moment. It also just so happens to be the moment that sent the Bills into their current 12 season tailspin. Blech.
As for some personal info, my name is David, and I’ve lived in Los Angeles since 1998, working in television and feature film post production. I came into adulthood in WNY right during the Bills’ glory years, and as anyone who was around then can tell you, that was the most magical time to be a fan. To just have a tiny taste of that again would be amazing.
While I don’t frequently comment, I love this site and visit it regularly, and I feel a built-in camaraderie with all Bills fans here. doctork44, this post was a great idea.

My Nic actually says it all. Born and raised in WNY and have been living down south for the better part of 25 years. But one of the good points of living outside of WNY, is the view point of other fans in different parts of the country. I have repeatedly been mocked and scorned for being a Bills fan…. but also because my NFC team is the Giants. Followed closely by the Lions. But how can you not help rooting for the Lions on Thanksgiving day, somehow i can sympathise with the fans of the Lions. Personally, i understand the younger people on this blog site, wanting to see the Bills in the playoffs, even make it to the Superbowl. They do not remember the glory days, much like when i was growing up, not remembering the 2 AFL championships that Jack Kemp and the Bills had, and almost making it to the very first Superbowl, losing to the Chiefs in the AFC championship game. But i will say this, no matter where i live, no matter how old i get, i will always be a Bills fan first. I don’t care if they don’t make it back to the Superbowl till 2014-2016 (my prediction), this time all i want to see is the Bills holding up that Trophy and not the other team this time. I’m sure most of us here would all agree.

Grew up in Buffalo, lived in Southern California for about 8 years, but now live in NC. Name is pretty self-explanatory after 12 seasons of futility, but thankfully I still have my collection of Bills game tapes from the early 90’s, so when people ask me why I am a Bills fan, I don’t have to think too hard wondering if it is a trick question.
I remember riding my bike to watch the Bills practice when they had Joe Cribbs and Joe Ferguson, getting autographs, of which none of them are worth anything. Favorite memories of the Bills was that I was at the Oilers comeback win and didn’t leave at halftime; The 49ers-Bills game when their were no punts in the game and Bills won; Bill Simpson’s interception in the end-zone against the Jets and any game before 1998.

LOL – good idea. Xebache is a purposeful mispelled name of the American Indian in the Johnny Deep movie Dead Man. Pronounced X-eb-aa-chay, it according to the flick translated eventually into – Nobody. Was just a silly thought one day and has been used for years in various places. ( gave me one name so my preAlzheimer’s self could remember ).
Lived in and around Buffalo most of my life with brief stops in Austin Tx, Colorado, and Florida. Work in Water Quality for local gov and can’t seem to outgrow my loyalty to our Bills. Love this site – I can relax after work with a brew and always have something great to read. Really appreciate all the effort from those that keep me informed about the college guys coming up and in’s and the outs that honostly I would never have a clue about. Nice post – great site – wonderful fans. This beer’s for you.
P.S. Avatar says it all :)!
