So my brother works for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (Canadian Football League). He just forwarded me an email saying the new head coach will be George Cortez. The email says he was our QB coach. Anyone else hear anything about this yet? I'll paste the body of the email here:
TIGER-CATS CARETAKER BOB YOUNG LEAKS IDENTITY OF NEW HEAD COACH TO
SEASON SEAT HOLDERS AND TWITTER FOLLOWERS
Confirming what he has already told Tiger-Cats season seat holders and
twitter followers, Tiger-Cats caretaker Bob Young issued the following
statement today:
"I am very, very excited to announce that George Cortez has been hired
as the new head coach and director of football operations of the
Hamilton Tiger-Cats. George's track record of success speaks for itself,
including more than 30 years of coaching experience in the CFL, NFL and
NCAA. He's been a part of four Grey Cup championship teams, has
engineered some of the CFL's most prolific offences and has coached some
of the best quarterbacks in professional football. We're extremely
confident that he will build us a championship-calibre program here in
Hamilton."
Cortez joins the Ticats after two seasons as the quarterbacks coach with
the NFL's Buffalo Bills.
Cortez's most recent CFL stint came when he served as offensive
coordinator and associate head coach of the Calgary Stampeders from
2007-09 . During his three seasons at the helm of Calgary's offence, the
Stamps ranked near the top in virtually every offensive category. In
2008, he teamed with recently acquired Ticats quarterback Henry Burris
to win the Grey Cup, with Burris taking Grey Cup MVP and West Division
Most Outstanding Player honours.
The Ticats will introduce Cortez, along with Burris, at a media
conference on Tuesday.
