Web Rumblings: Buffalo Bills News, 1/9
Giants lead charge of ex-Bills coaches in playoffs - Jerry Sullivan
"It was a veritable showcase of former Bills coaches on the opening weekend. Gregg Williams had a big day as New Orleans' defensive coordinator as the Saints beat the Lions on Saturday (with Jabari Greer picking off two passes). Wade Phillips, who has recovered nicely from gall bladder surgery, led Houston's dominant defense against the Bengals." He goes on to mention Kevin Gilbride and Perry Fewell plus Dick LeBeau.
County needs NFL expert in lease talks - The Buffalo News
"To truly protect taxpayer backs in this deal, the county needs to bring in a sports economist who knows the lay of the NFL land. It needs a hired gun familiar with recent or pending deals in, among other places, Jacksonville, Minnesota and Cincinnati. It needs someone who knows the pecking order of cities that covet teams and how to best tie the Bills to Buffalo. The people sitting with Ralph Wilson will know every rut and rock of that landscape."

Inside The Bills | Could be Reed’s year
"Only Reed advanced in the reduction to 10, before eventually being eliminated in the next round from 10 to 5. With no shoo-ins like Emmitt Smith or Jerry Rice in this year’s finalist group as there have been the past couple of years, Reed’s best chance is probably this year."
NFL.com news: Bills' Jackson wants to hold onto featured back role over Spiller
"He's (Bills coach Chan Gailey) definitely got some thinking to do," Jackson told the Buffalo News. "You know that's what he does. He's an offensive-minded guy, so it'll be interesting to see what he does. ... I expect to go back to playing the way I was. We'll see. (Spiller) made plays. He's a playmaker, without a doubt. But I also felt like I did enough to show what I'm capable of doing."
Johnson's status is Bills' top offseason topic - Larry Felser
"Enough also with prime players, even quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, telling us that Johnson is a nobleman and a wonderful teammate with a great sense of humor. He's not here to earn a Boy Scout badge. He's here not to drop touchdown passes against the Jets, Steelers or anyone else in the vicinity of a big play for the Bills."
C.J. Spiller hoping for featured duo role next year with Fred Jackson - OrangeandWhite.com
About his confidence level as he wanted his turn, Spiller said "my confidence has never been low, even when Fred was having a great season."
Buffalo Bills should use Fred Jackson, C.J. Spiller more | Democrat and Chronicle
"Why wouldn't the Bills gladly give Jackson a new long-term deal? He'll be coming off a broken leg, he'll turn 31 years old on Feb. 20, and second-year man C.J. Spiller played very well after Jackson suffered his season-ending injury. Spiller isn't going anywhere."

Two RBs saying that either want more (Spiller) or the lion’s share (Jackson) of the carries. One of them is a first round pick and the other is unhappy with their contract. I have a bad feeling that will boil over (if not during the offseason, then by around week 5 of next season). Hopefully the Bills can figure it all out and use them both. Maybe trying to become a run first team might be a good idea after all.
Thank you thank you thank you thank you sireric for bringing the furious punching cat back into my life. - poz

Well they’ve got a guy who just led the league in interceptions at QB and the best WR on the team isnt going to get a contract offer so I hope they become a run first team!

Didn’t Stevie Johnson presumably get a contract offer if the sides were talking and reportedly $2M apart?

If he wanted $7.5 mil and they offered $5.5 mil, one could argue he wasn’t offered a serious contract offer. (I can’t believe I just typed that – even just 1 million would set my family up for life.)

Standard negotiating tactics. Company low-balls, employee high-balls. Just like buying a car.

A high ball by stevie woulda been 11 mill. He coukd realisticly get 10 millin a year on the open market. Stevie is asking 7.5 a discount for the oppurtunity to play un buffalo.

In your opinion.
$10M/yr avg? I think that is way too high. If the market will provide him with that much then he would be a fool to only ask for $7.5M/yr, and I do not believe he is a fool. A “hometown” discount from $10M would never be 25%.
IMO $11M would have been too high and his agent knows that. If I were to guess, the end numbers will be around $6M to $6.5M avg, with performance bonus clauses attached.
We shall see sometime over the next two months what terms both sides agree with.

Presumably. But until an hour ago it seemed as if he was as good as gone. We’ll see if Nix does what he says he will.
