It almost seems like stating the obvious at this point, but after four games I think the assessment is fair.
They have plenty of talent. They were good enough to hang with the pats for 3 quarters. They were good enough to handily beat weak teams like KC and Cleveland. But when it comes to facing a team that is fired up like the Jets were week 1 and the Pats were towards the end of today's game, they crumble.
That to me is a team that plays soft. We've got hard working players like Dareus, KWilliams, Barnett, Byrd, Jackson, Levitre, Wood etc. They work hard and that's great. Everybody likes a guy who works hard and shows up to play.
But who is out there eating glass? We don't have any players who are like that, and when you look at the Ravens or the Steelers or the Seahawks or the 49ers or the Patriots you can see that's how they take their teams to the next level and refuse to allow their teams to fail. I don't think anyone out their is losing their mind on the field and in the locker room. Cornelius Bennet would have absolutely DESTROYED the locker room after this loss, I'm sure our guys just moped and Chan said we need to be better.
I said earlier that losing in the trenches is why we lost the game. But now that I reflect on it a little more, the problem is that we are soft. That's why we lost in the trenches and that's why we couldn't hold on to the lead.
When you don't have players who can do it on their own like Ray Lewis, well then you need coaches who can do it. The 90's Bills didn't need a coach who ate glass because they had players who did. This is an opposite situation. Chan Gailey and Wanny however unfortunately are not capable of firing up this team to the point where they are ready to go all out and absolutely ****ing destroy their opponent without mercy. It's just not happening and that is what is the problem with our team right now. Maybe Mario Williams is the opposite of what we needed as he's more of a lead by example type (laughable right now I know), what we needed was a Terrel Suggs type of player who refuses to lose.
Bottom line: We are in big trouble if a few of the guys on this team don't turn into glass eaters. The coaches are not capable of inspiring it so it will need to come from someone who steps up in the locker room. If not, this team will not make the playoffs and Gailey should absolutely be fired at the end of the season.
