The New England Patriots have taken an early 3-0 lead on the Buffalo Bills thanks to a 43-yard field goal from Stephen Gostkowski. They might not have scored on their opening possession at all had the Bills been able to hang on to either of their two interception opportunities.
On Tom Brady's first pass attempt of the day, Marcell Dareus deflected the ball into the air, but Bryan Scott could not bring in an easy centerfield fly for the pick. Then, on the final play of the drive prior to the field goal, a ball went through Deion Branch's hands, but Leodis McKelvin couldn't hang on for the pick.
Wes Welker also dropped an easy touchdown on the drive. The fact that there were three drops at all on the possession indicates that the players may be dealing with some sun glare issues. That'll be worth noting when the Bills get to the second quarter and the sun is at their back.
Buffalo takes over with 6:04 left in the first quarter, looking to improve on an opening possession that saw them commit three penalties.
