So the Bills are heading down the "easy" stretch of games for their schedule. The defense has had it's obvious struggles against the run and through the air and if one more DE gets injured Shawne Merriman will be our only other option. I'm a firm believer in battles being fought and won in the trenches. In terms of having a successful pass rush, if the D-line can get to the QB consistently, defensive backs have an easier time covering recievers, and linebackers are free to make plays or tackles that the line can not.
A player like Ray Edwards is intriguing, he reminds me of Mark Anderson because he excels when there is other talent on the line. As we all know, we have all the talent in the world with Dareus, Meatball and Mario but we lack that explosive 4th option that can stay healthy. Edwards excelled in Minnesota due to Jared Allen and K/P. Williams. In Atlanta he didn't have the same success, but here in Buffalo it could be a different story. For his 7 year career Edwards has posted 33 sacks and has been known to have a vocal presence, perhaps signing a veteran who can get to the QB with some leadership qualities would not hurt while trying to make a run at the playoffs. Edwards has a lot to prove at this point, he has to show he can produce and his play could result in Mario having to step up as well. After all, no one likes playing second fiddle when the spotlight is directly on you after signing a record breaking contract.
The way I see it, you can never have too many options. Especially when dealing with the pass rush. If Wanny is gone next year (or this year) it will be much easier for Buddy Nix to hire a Defensive Coordinator who knows he has multiple weapons when coming in. So what say you fellow Rumblers?
