Well, it's that time of year again.
I don't need to go into much more detail, Rumblers. You know what I'm talking about. Suffice to say, it seems like it's always around the time that Buffalo gets eliminated from the playoffs that Mel Kiper takes out his hairspray and starts polishing his glasses for another year of draft coverage. Yep, it's almost officially the Offseason in Buffalo.
With the last loss, I've seen a lot of people suddenly posting mock drafts, and it got me thinking. We have a great community, and a big one at that. There are a lot of smart people in this community, and I know there are plenty who like to "play GM." Another SB Nation site I follow, Amazin Avenue (New York Mets), has a competition every year during their playoffs called the Amazin Avenue Offseason Plan (AAOP) competition. In it, fans are given a salary limit and some resources to help them get started, and then told to "play GM" and build the best team they can for the upcoming year and the further future, detailing the plan in a fanpost. Eventually a group of finalists is chosen and then the community votes for the winner.
Would you Rumblers be interested in doing a similar competition, if a little more informally? I could set ground rules and have it running near the end of the month, before new coaches start getting hired away. You guys would have about a week from the start of the competition until the submission deadline to put together a plan involving coaching changes, free agents, and draft picks, and write it up in a fanpost (graphs and pictures optional) for the community to see. Then we could vote on the top ones.
What do you think? Seem like a fun project? Comment if you have suggestions or opinions.
