Why the Bills must lose out.
To begin this post I just want to say that I love the Bills. I have lived and breathed them for over 2 decades and I am sick and tired of mediocrity. The reason teams who constantly stink get better is the quality of their draft picks. Teams like the Lions (not this year), Falcons, Seahawks, Houston, and others are able to crawl their way out of the NFL garbage heap is that when they stink, they really stink. Which allows these franchises to select in the top 5 picks in the draft. These selections are usually of higher quality than the perennial losers (like the Bills) who always seem to have selections in the 8-15 range which are usually much more of a gamble. I believe that the Bills must lose the next two games.
Right now according to my calculations they would have the 8th selection overall. 5-9 with a 50% SOS. There are 15 teams close to them in the NFL and depending on the outcome they could end up anywhere from 3rd to 17th in the draft order in the 2013 NFL Draft. The next two games are crucial and as much as we want them to win the franchise is better off if they lose both. Miami and the Jets both have losing records, loses to these two teams would push their SOS below 50% and could allow them to select over teams like Detroit, Cleveland, Tennessee, Philadelphia, Carolina, Arizona, Miami, and the Jets. It would be painful but, these loses might secure Manti Te’o, Jarvis Jones, Luke Joeckel, or their QB of choice (which I believe they should pass on until a later round). The gain might not seem like much in the first round but, selecting between 35-40 vs. 45-50 in the second round, 70-75 vs. 80-85 in the third round, and 105-110 vs. 115-120 in the third round in a huge upgrade in quality options.
Please Bills for all your loyal fans lose!
