Playing For the Fans: Which Players Are Still Trying?

I was reading an article on BB.com about how Stevie is closing in on his 3rd straight 100 yard season, and it had a great quote from Stevie that got me thinking.

“It’s just hope. Playing for hope, for my teammates, for the fans, for them to see that there’s still hope,” he said. “It may seem sort of weak, but that’s what it is. We’re not playing for the playoffs man, but you still turn on the channel and the Bills are still your team. You still can watch and say, ‘That kid is still playing. That guy out there is playing.’ So it’s something to play for still, for the fans.”

...

“I think everybody knows I’m not doing things for myself. It’s all for team,”

I thought three things: - 1 - Stevie's got a shot at doing something that is exceptional in this league. Very few receivers are this consistent, - 2 - Stevie's really maturing as a leader on this team, he's the type of player that your really want to have both on the field and in the locker room, - 3 - This type of heart is what we should be looking for in our players in our last 2 games.

The 3rd point is what I want to concentrate on. There will be some changes to this team over the off season player wise, there always is. So right now is the time that we should be looking at our players and looking for the ones that are still trying on every play, despite being out of the playoffs, and separating them from the players that have given up. And it's easy to spot the difference too.

Guys like Stevie and Kyle Williams, and Freddy and CJ,those are the guys that give it their all on every down. But unfortunately not every player does that. And in my opinion if this team is to get better it needs to drop the guys that have given up.

So let's watch the last 2 games closely, let's find the players that really care, and weed out the ones that don't to continue to build around the high character talent on the team and drop the players that are just in it for the paycheck.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
