I like Chan Gailey. He's a good offensive mind, and I love his Southern accent. But this is the NFL, where it all comes down to wins. In Chan's 3 years here, he has gone 4-12, 6-10, and 5-10. I'm giving him a pass for the first two seasons: In 2010 the team stunk and half their losses were by only 1 score, and in 2011 they came out hot (5-2) before injuries hurt them. But this year showed no improvement (in my opinion they regressed), and have had losses by 20, 26, 42, and 33 points. Unacceptable for a third year coach with playoff talent in place. So Gailey is fired.
Gailey's replacement will be Hue Jackson, assistant for the Cincinnati Bengals. Jackson did a great job in Oakland, taking them 8-8 and 1 game out of a playoff spot despite the drama with the Carson Palmer trade, etc. After Al Davis died Jackson was screwed over by new Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie and owner Mark Davis. The only Bills assistants that will remain are Joe D'Allesandris (O-Line), George Catavolos (DBs), Bruce DeHaven (Special Teams), and Curtis Modkins (RBs- Look what he's done with Spiller!). Modkins will be the offensive coordinator (for real: playcalling included) and Mike Singletary will be the defensive coordinator (Buffalo needs that kind of aggresion).
Free Agency: After cutting some reserve players and doing a lot of math, the Bills should have $17.137 million in cap space, with $4 million set aside for rookies. They would resign Jairus Byrd for 5yrs, $40mil ($9.137 million cap space), Andy Levitre for 5yrs, $30mil ($3.137 million cap space). Next Chris Kelsay, Brad Smith, and Terrence McGee will be cut, freeing up an additional $8 million (Cap Space $11.137 million). With that, the Bills will resign Ruvell Martin, Donald Jones, Mike Caussin, David Nelson, Kyle Moore, Chad Rinehart, Corey McIntyre, and Leodis McKelvin will all be resigned, leaving the Bills with $1.9 million to spend in Free Agency. They will sign CB Derek Cox from Jacksonville for $1.5 million/yr.
The Draft: The Bills will select:
Round 1: Mike Glennon, QB, NC State (6'6, 232)
Round 2: Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee (6'4, 200)
Round 3: Arthur Brown, OLB, Kansas State (6'1, 228)
Round 4: Brian Winters, OT, Kent State (6'5, 310)
Round 5: B.W. Webb, CB, William & Mary (5'10, 180)
Round 6: Devin Taylor, DE, South Carolina (6'7, 267)
Round 7: Blaize Foltz, OG, TCU (6'4 , 310)
