Morning Joe! Free Agent CBs
Good morning and Happy Friday Rumblers,
For today's Joe, I want to discuss the Free Agent CB class. As many of you are aware by now, it has been reported that the Bills have a scheduled interview with recently release CB Stanford Routt, who was released on Thursday just one year in to a 5yr $54.5 million contract, that gave him over $20 million in guarantees. It appears that ole Buddy Nix is sticking to his word to be activie in this year free Agency period. Nix also expressed the desire to add a CB or two in either free agency or the draft. With the addition of Routt, this year CB free agency class is becoming quite loaded, it includes Brent Grimes, Cortland Finnegan, Aaron Ross, Brandon Carr, Rashean Mathis, Richard Marshall, Carlos Rogers, Terrell Thomas, Eric Wright and Tracy Porter.
Below are some quick facts:
Brent Grimes-(ATL)-(5'10", 183lbs, 28 yrs old, 4th Season) 49 tackles, 1 int, 1 FF
Cortland Finnegan- (TEN)-(5'10'", 188lbs, 28 yrs old, 6th Season) 75 tackles, 1 Sack, 1 int)
Aaron Ross- (NYG)-(6'0'', 190lbs, 29 yrs old, 5th Season) 60 tackles, 4 int)
Brandon Carr- (KCC)-(6'0", 207lbs, 25 yrs old, 4th Season) 45 tackles, 4 int)
Rashean Mathis- (JAX)-(6'1, 193lbs, 31 yrs old, 9th Season) missed 7 games 34 tackles, 1 int)
Richard Marshall-(ARZ)-(5'11", 198lbs, 27 yrs old, 6th Season) 78 tackles, 2 Sacks, 3 int)
Carlos Rogers-(SF4)-(6'0", 192lbs, 30 yrs old, 7th Season) 43 tackles, 6 int)
Terrell Thomas- (NYG)-(6'0", 191lbs, 27 yrs old, 4th Season) missed entire 2011 Season, 10' 81 tack 5 sacks 1 int)
Eric Wright- (DET)-(5'10", 190lbs, 26 yrs old, 5th Season) 74 tackles, 1 FF, 4 int)
Tracey Porter- (NOS)-(5'11" 186lbs, 25 yrs old, 4th Season) 52 tackles, 2 FF, I int)
Stanford Routt- (OAK)-(6'1", 195lbs, 28 yrs old, 7th Season) 49 tackles, 4 int)
Okay Rumblers, what do you think?
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

great timing what with the Routt news and all
I will be honest I have not taken the time to look at this position yet, but I voted for Carras it seems he has size, production, and youth on his side.
As I said in Brian’s story, I would be glad to pick up one of these guys that could be a starting CB and better than Florence in this deep FA period along with a top four draft pick. Then I would like to see Florence and Mcgee let go saving the team a total of 7.6M in actual money and 5.7M in cap space for the year (this money would be a wash as it would go towards the new FA). This would leave a depth chart that looks like this. New FA, Williams, McKelvin, Rogers, top four round draft pick.
This is easily a better depth chart than last year, while riding the team of another injury prone player, and penalty machine.

I like this
Not sure if I will let go Flo tho.
New FA WR, Williams, McKelvin, Flo, Rogers. I think we need flo just in case injuries pop up again…McGee is a goner in my opinion
My problem with this is next year
I we go with that then we dont have room on the roster to draft a CB this year. Which I really think we need to do because
McKelvin will be a UFA that we probably wont resign, and Florence would be getting paid 5M with a 5.66M cap hit.
Probably not worth that and so we would be needing to replace our #3 and #4 CB in the same year, and both with rookies.
I would much rather get a mid round pick in this years draft that could be our #3 CB next year when we lose McKelvin and also add one next year in the draft. I agree that your depth chart for this year looks better but it leaves us in a lurch for next year.

There are always CB's available
every offseason. Don’t forget, if we sign any CB this year, we will have Williams, Rogers, new guy as our top 3. So, even if we lose Leo and Flo, they are only the dime back/backup at this point.
I'd rather go out in a blaze of glory, then slowly fade away in the antiquities of time.
I would be OK with signing Routt but
he did lead the NFL in penalties last season with 17. He would definitely need to show more discipline and cut down on those penalties. Also, given his injury problems McGee is more likely to be let go than Florence is.
Florence is too slow to be a corner. McGee can’t stay healthy. Leo hasn’t lived up to his first round selection yet. I would rather not have Reggie Corner on the roster. That leaves: Williams, and Rogers. We NEED a corner. Whether a vet (preferred) and instant starter in the draft (Kirkpatrick) I think that we definitely need to address this position, and I like that we are having him in, regardless. I think, that it shows that Nix is aware of the deficiencies that are creeping into the back end, and that we could us a tall, fast corner. Sign him.
ABAYARDE IS NOSTRADAMUS JUST WATCH WE WILL NOT YIEALD TO NOBODY YOUR SOUL WE WILL TAKE
I voted Carr.
Are we drafting Dino's now?

The youngest was the most loved
despite small size, he’s a very talented guy and I think he’d do well in Buffalo.

Wright and Routt
are both very good options as well.
