Stanford Routt in Today....got this feeling
Whats up Rumblers, hope you all had a solid weekend as I surely did. Here I am just eating some pizza and thinking about how good of a job CHIX are doing at convincing Stanford Routt at the moment. I have great feelings about this offseason and if we could pull of this signing, it would mark the beginning to us building a serious squad. We have established some really nices pieces on our team (Dareus and Williams are arguably the best defensive tackle tandem in the AFC, as well as Fred Jackson and Spiller). The Bills have been mentioned on ESPN Insider multiple times in rumors circulating around the likes of Mario Williams, Vincent Jackson, and Cliff Avril. Although getting all three of these player will never happen, grabbing one seems very possible. We are set up to add pieces to make us a playoff team at the moment as we have the 10th overall pick (which I think we should trade down and take Dont'a Hightower and get another 2nd round pick for immediate impact players) and an incredibly solid free agent class. There is talent everywhere in this free agent class, from tackle to defensive backs, to defensive end, there are players who could make a serious impact on our team. The Stevie Johnson situation is definitely a weird one as he, as well as the front office have given us no positive hope or indication that he will be in a uni next year. As for Fred Jackson,
Buddy Nix loves the guy (what is there not to love, he is a class act who grinded his way from D-3...a guy you want leading your team for upcoming potential golden years.) I am with getting rid of Johnson under the circumstance we get a good replacement, and some young players (including Marcus Easley becoming a contributor) We are in a good place right now although our season was a bit of a let down. We saw the light, and we felt what it feels like to root for contenders, and we are ready to get to that podium. The 2011 draft was the most successful draft of the decade in terms of impact players (Kelvin Sheppard, Aaron Williams, Da'Noris Searcy, Chris Hairston, and Justin Rogers are all really bright spots). This is our year, and our road to becoming a playoff team starts here with a great offseason, and a great draft. Buddy Nix will make the Buffalo Bills a legit team for the future, and Chan Gailey is the perfect coach in this regime. The only question mark to all of us is Ryan Fitzpatrick, but time will only tell to see if hes worth his contract. He is the one thing that I am not real confident about on the roster (of course I am not going to instill confidence in a guy who led the NFL in interceptions...). I wouldn't say the solid run game nullifies the bad qualities of Fitzpatrick, as we don't take as much advantage as we should in our solid backfield foundation. I hope David Lee is a positive influence on Fitzpatrick, and we should definitely take a backup within our first 5 picks of the draft. More weapons would also be nothing but a good thing as we have seen Fitzpatrick get players involved in the offense (Naaman Roosevelt, David Nelson, Scott Chandler, etc.). Enough with the talk, and hope your all having a solid off-season sunday. Let the season of good feelings begin with a kickass off-season. BAM.
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

Getting 2 of the 3 would be outstanding
I’d be happy if CHIX could land at least two of the three rumored to be in wearing Buffalo Blue next year. Just from a management standpoint, they can point to what the Bills need and how those players fit into that need. Also, if Buddy spends to the cap like he said he will, then the money shouldn’t be the issue.
Paranoids are not paranoid because they're paranoid, but because they keep putting themselves...deliberately into paranoid situations.
Hightower
Joe B of WGR 550 thinks Hightower may be available to the Bills in round 2. He has an injury history and may be slow, we’ll see at the combine.

totally
Inside linebackers an interesting position for this years draft…way bigger pool than last years draft.

I like Hightower
I’m not sure though it be awesome if he slipped to round 2. It is just hard to think of since….He is pretty fast.
Came back and produced last season.
He isn’t JUST a middle linebacker. He played all over each of the linebacker positions and even on DL.
at 6 foot 4 260…idk it just tough for GMs and Scouts to see him as just an ILB. I know the media labels him that way.
But maybe you are right you never know with the draft
my bad
Hes classified as an inside linebacker, but would be a serious threat playing the Sam in a 4-3, because of his great size, and experience rushing the QB on the DL in Bama at times.

same here
I make most of my true assessments, once seeing them compared to others in their craft. Kinda like most talent evaluators that don’t bother with college scouting.

Would feel better if they lock up Stevie
We can’t expect to get Vincent Jackson on the free market, and I’d rather have Stevie anyway. He is younger, and can beat Revis on a consistent basis

agreed
its a shame they can’t just do the damn thing and sign him…I think Stevie is more logical than Fred Jackson in the short term as well as the long term..but both would be fantastic.

Stevie
Everything I’ve heard is that theses deals usually get done around the combine. As of right now there is now reason to worry about him leaving. If he isn’t signed by March 1 then there may be cause for concern.
this post made me think of this. I hope we get him. I like it.

Got that feeling, luck is just a little of it;
got that feeling, I can’t stop winning…

Would enjoy hearing a Routt signing in the next few days...
I know other teams have scheduled him or wanted to schedule him for visits too. I am glad to see OBD act quickly once this guy became available to bring him in and make a pitch for him. They certainly can’t afford to be late to the game nor let “talent” get past them… Hopefully what they are “selling” is more attractive to free agents this year too.
History has shown that the reason FAs visit the Bills first is to
use it as leverage to get a better deal with other teams. If he leaves town without a contract, he is most likely not coming back.

I don't know if that's completely true
Clabo did it because he never intended to leave Atlanta. And it’s true that many of Buffalo’s additions came somewhat unwillingly or as a last resort.
But some came for an opportunity to start or get more playing time. Dwan Edwards is getting more playing time in Buffalo than as a reserve in Baltimore, and Brad Smith signed to play for Gailey, who he thought would use him better than the Jets.
In the case of Routt, he can’t really be leveraging that many teams. The leverage deal works best with the team a player is threatening to leave. Routt can’t go back to Oakland and isn’t leveraging them. And Buffalo’s a place that someone like Routt can come a start.
Re-starting the official Buffalo "Draft a quarterback in the First Round in 2012" campaign.
Dallas and Tennessee are both candidates that might be more appealing
Especially with the background with Rob Ryan. Tennesee’s defense is pretty darn similar to ours, and with multiple years in the scheme.

yep and the Vikes need a CB as well
besides….if Routt couldn’t start for at least half the teams in the league, do we really want to sign him? We need starting caliber CBs, not more nickel CBs.

@Joe P.
History? I don’t know about that. I know Clabo pulled that, but who else? Dockery and Walker signed. Barnett signed. Spikes signed Paup signed back in the day. I don’t think the Bills get used more or less than other teams do in regards to players/agents playing the leverage game. It’s a part of negotiations.
If he leaves without signing, true enough, he probably ain’t coming back.
Two words....Panda Watch
It has been a BR staple since about 3 yrs ago when a certain WR by the name of Bryant pulled this crap.

Rat Edwards as well

But he’s not a player they should over pay for either. He’s okay on the field and has very good physical skills, but there are better players available when FA opens on 3/13. Finnegan, Carr, Grimes.
Finnegan is not worth 60 million dollars either
Grimes is a good corner, but he’s kind of limited athletically, and the chiefs are unlikely to let Carr go, especially since Crennel is the headcoach there.
