My Realistic Offseason

Okay, here is my non-Mario Williams, realistic off-season that would make me happy.

First, I would re-sign or franchise Stevie. I would also re-sign Bell and Chandler. I'd cut McGee and Dwan Edwards for cost savings.

In free agency, assuming we can't get Mario or Avril, I would completely avoid the other DE's like Mincey. They'll be overpriced for guys that are of average value. So in free agency, I'd sign the following players:

Terrell Thomas CB

Either Manningham or Meacham at WR

One of Morrison, Manny Lawson or Rocky McIntosh for SLB

I think given our cap space and the large number of top CB and WR in free agency, those guys can be fit under our cap pretty easily. Of course that still leaves us with a gaping hole for a pass rush.

But I'd do the following in the draft to hopefully address it:

Round 1 - Coples, Upshaw or Ingram (in that order)

Round 2 - Vinny Curry, Andre Branch or Chandler Jones (in that order)

Round 3 - Osweiler, Cousins or Foles (in that order)

Round 4a - Shea McLellin or Bruce Irvin LB

Round 4b - Nate Potter LT or best TE available

Counting on the two rookie DEs to immediately upgrade our pass rush is not realistic. But I think it is our best option. Rather than invest in a mediocre DE in free agency. Hopefully at least one of these guys will develop quickly and over the long term develop into a stud DE.

Round 3 would bring us the QB we desperately need to groom behind Fitz. If we can get one of those LBs with our first pick in round 4, I think that would give us some youth at SLB and possible pass rush help too.

So, I don't think this offseason would make us a playoff team next year. But, I think it is a very realistic offseason to expect and if those young DEs come along sooner than later, could have a major impact on our defense.

What do you think, would you be happy with this offseason?
