The offseason ideas
The Super Bowl is over so let the other season begin.....
In free agency I can see the Bills eying up a few different free agents.
In no real order.
Defensive Ends - ones who can pressure and get to the quarterback and can control the edge
Mario Williams - Houston
Anthony Spencer - Dallas
Wide Receivers - ones who can stretch the field and catch the ball. There is a couple here who can also take the position of Stevie Johnson if he runs for greener pastures.
Dwayne Bowe - KC
Vincent Jackson - SD
Braylon Edwards - SF
Eddie Royal - Denver
Jerome Simpson - Cincinnati
DeSean Jackson - Philadelphia
Outside Linebackers - ones who can get to the quarterback and handle run duties
Ahmad Brooks - SF
Leroy Hill - Seatle
Manny Lawson - Cincinnati
Tight Ends - Bigger bodies than the new style tight end but can block and catch the ball
Martellus Bennett - Dallas
Leonard Pope - KC
Joel Dressen - Houston
I could try to type a note on each of these players but it is too much. I see these players as ones who would best fit into what OBD is looking for.
For the Draft I see these as the “wish” list of OBD:
1. Quinton Coples or Courtney Upshaw - either will fit the system will be a day one starter at DE
2. Ronnell Lewis - OLB from Oklahoma who loves getting after anyone who has the ball. High motor
3. Bruce Irvin - OLB from West Virginia and can simply get after the quarterback
4a. Nate Potter - Solid OT who will be a solid back up and potential starter
4b. Brock Osweiler - Came out a year early and needs to sit and learn the Gailey system. Has the arm to handle the Buffalo winds.
5. Ladarius Green - TE from a small school who is making a name for himself with his abilities as shown at the senior bowl.
6. Brian Quick - Tall, big receiver from a small school. Will play with a chip on his shoulder
7. Hebron Fangupo - a DT from BYU who just intrigues me
Ideas and thoughts would be great!!!
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

your draft looks good……….we need olb and de help badly………dont forget a cb is is a need as well…………………but pass rush in the first 2 rds is not a bad idea………….look at the gmen……..there pass rush won them 2 super bowls
I agree with your draft as well.
We really need to pickup pass rushers in both rounds, maybe trade down with Dallas to pickup another 2nd or 3rd round pick this would give us alot of room to grab up the BPA in the 2nd or 3rd round. Here’s my draft look if we decide to trade down.
1st rd-High’tower or Brockers OLB/DE
2nd rd-Ronell Lewis-OLB or Vinny Curry
2nd rd via trade-Dwanye Allen TE
3rd rd-Bruce Irwin
3rd rd via trade-Nate Potter or Brock Osweiler (get him now because a 6’8 QB won’t be on the board long)
4th rd-Ladarius Green TE (if we don’t get Allen) or Tramaine Johnson (that if he is available still)
4th rd-Donnie Fletcher DB or Lucas Nix OG/OT
5th rd-Cliff Harris DB ( I really like his playing style just like Aaron Williams) or Tommy Streeter WR ( this guy is a 6’5 WR which we need to punish the Pats and Jets Secondary)
5th rd-Brian Quick WR or a DB
im not sure the bills will make any trades, so 2 is like pretty much out of the question

Brockers is 306lbs
he is a DT/DE
With the 10th Pick in the 2012 NFL Draft the Buffalo Bills select Dont'a Hightower LB Alabama.
in the 3-4
odds are in a 4-3 he’s a straight DT

Have to make a couple of assumptions
If the Bills re-sign Johnson and Chandler, the WR and TE moves down the priority list for me.
Assuming they are re-signed, I would hope they add pass rushers in free agency and in the first round of the draft.
I would then target OT and CB in rounds 2, 3, and 4. If Terrence Mcgee gets cut, and if B. Scott is let go, we may also need to address the defensive backfield in free agency before looking at WR and TE.
Johnson, Jones, Nelson, and possibly Easley can be good, although not dynamic. But keeping Chandler, and utilizing Jackson and Spiller effectively can make the offense work.
I liked your post.
How about sign Osi
He will be a good option at DE if we can’t sign Mario, better than Spencer.
Also, i know maybe i’m crazy, but i would give a chance for Chad Ochocinco. He and Stevie will be a good pair with Nelson and Spiller on the slots.
And another crazy idea, but who knows, i would trade Fred for a draft pick and sign Brandon Jacobs to back up Spiller. We don’t need Fred and Spiller spliting time. Give it to the younger and most promising player we have.

my guess right now
Is that Johnson is gone and we get bowe or Jackson.
Also, I would take a shot on coples, but he will be gone.
If I were the bills, I would keep Johnson and pay Mario whatever it takes.

Franchised
I think they’d tag Stevie before they let him walk. I also think Chans insistence on a big WE means we will be players for Jackson or Bowe which would be great!
I really hope they can somehow swing a move for Mario above all else

0 chance we tag steve
Live him, but not worth a tag.

I agree, both are injury prone. Surprised that Meachem wasn’t on the list.

I'd rather see Early Doucet
than either of those guys, and yes I still want Meachem.

I support this comment.
hahaha I am a fan of Doucet, and Meachem, and think either could be good additions. I feel like Meachem would command more money, and his age might mean that Doucet could provide more upside.

I like the mock draft quite a bit. I really hope that Buffalo employs a pass rusher type at that strongside OLB spot and I’m a Ronnell Lewis fan, especially for that role.
The only player in the wish list that I don’t think will actually make Buffalo’s wish list is Nate Potter. Really good prospect, but he’s pretty lean and not a guy who you can ask to be a power run blocker. I’d bet that he’s off Buffalo’s board entirely. He needs to be in a zone blocking system where he can run block by sealing guys away from the play and creating lanes via scheme and cutbacks like that as opposed to Buffalo’s more traditional style of driving defenders off the line.

Agree on Potter
He reminds me of an underpowered Brad Butler.

Nice except #7
We already have enough DT we desperately need CB not DT
Colston – the saints will not let go
Meachem – dropsies at the wrong time
Manningham – will sign for less to stay in New York.
Fat, Drunk, & Stupid is No way to go through life.
you mean to NOT COME to New York?
; )
I agree. Colston won’t leave. Manningham would go elsewhere for more money, but I think that he would stay in NY for less if his only other option were here.

I just can't get that excited over the free agent market...
When’s the last time the Bills signed a major free agent? Nick Barnett and Shawne Merriman were less sought after because they were coming off injuries. Nobody else wanted Terrell Owens. I can’t even remember the last time the Bills were able to snag a high-end free agent who other teams wanted.
I don’t know whether it’s because players are reluctant to play here, or if the Bills just don’t go the extra mile financially, but either way, nothing’s changed that would make me expect things to be any different this year.
I’ll be sick if we don’t re-sign Stevie – a young, exciting player who actually wants to be here – but I have a feeling we won’t. I have this sinking feeling we’ll be starting next year with Jones, Nelson and a draft pick as our top receivers.

Shawne Merriman was a waiver wire pick-up, not a free agent signing.

This is highly logical. In that… you SHOULD have a horrible feeling if this is what we were to mistakenly do. I think, we are more likely to franchise Steve for a year, and draft an early pick, than put all our eggs into the Jones basket. Unless Chan is just an offensive moron, instead of genius. Financially, there is little reason not to re-sign Steve. Fred, is the one I would be more inclined to move, and let someone else pay, because of his age, and CJ’s progress. Ultimately, I feel like both will be on the team, and the guy we will likely lose if some other team wants him bad enough, will be Chandler.

Simpson is interesting
not sure if he’s going to leave the Bengals though. Bennett should be signable by the Bills and still has upside. As much as i would like to see super Mario come to Buffalo, I just don’t see the Bills giving up draft picks. I’m willing to bet he get’s the Franchise tag in Houston.

No sir, I don't like it.
Plus, that cat is gonna be in jail (1-5 years) anyway. Wasn’t he the one mailing himself pounds of marijuana, and thus facing trafficking charges for his like, 8 pounds or something he had in his own house? I mean, character issues, a complete idiot, and not sure if you know this… but flipping over dudes from the 3 inch line is not only more dangerous (albeit athletic) it is completely unnecessary. Dude could have tripped into the endzone on that play. It was stupid. Athletic and flashy, and he could have had any number of injuries…. Give me a 15 yard penalty on every single TD celebration from Steve Johnson, over watching some idiot do a flip and snap his shin in half or something, and then he is likely a felon to boot? Pass.

Free Agency
I think its highly likely we lose both Demetrius Bell and Scott Chandler in FA. Both are likely to see considerable interest because of their position, performance and potential upside. It could be a business decision to go with cheaper options over these two players. The dropoff from Bell – Hairston, or from Chandler to a waiver wire pickup might not be substantial enough to warrant such a huge increase in payroll.
As you mention, we might also need to franchise Stevie, which potentially creates a need for next year even if we do sign a big name WR. I think this year we’ll be looking to pick up both a swing tackle and a receiver in free agency and/or get lucky with later round draft picks, on top of our need for a pass rusher and a TE through the draft.
