Coaching stability....former Bills coaches and Super Bowls
So I started playing around online to take a look at former Bills Head Coaches, Offensive Coordinators, and Def Coordinators. I also took a look at former front office people as well, and their success after leaving us. Pretty interesting stuff:
2012 Super Bowl Winner:
NYG, OC Kevin Gilbride, coached for Bills as OC 2002-2003; DC Perry Fewell, coached for Bills as DC 2006-2009
2011 Super Bowl Winner:
Green Bay Packers: QB Coach and now OC Tom Clements; coached for Bills as OC 2004-2005
2010 Super Bowl Winner:
New Orlean Saints: DC Greg Williams; Bills HC from 2001-2003
2009 Super Bowl Winner:
Pittsburgh Steelers: DC Dick LeBeau ; Bills assistant HC in 2003
2008 Super Bowl Winner:
NYG: OC Kevin Gilbride
2007 Super Bowl Winner:
Indy Colts: Front office, Bill Polian
Just thought some of you guys might like that.
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

im sure
Almost every team in the NFL could put together similar lists.

Pretty interesting stuff?
The Green Bay connection is a reach. Maybe if he was the OC when they won we would have a 5 year trend. As it stand we have a list of about 3-4 guys spread over 5 years. Not monumental stuff.
If the Pats would have won, would Denver and St. Louis regret getting rid of McDaniels? Negative.

Understood on Green Bay
But the QB play there has been top tier for years now, and Clements has been there for a while. He was one and done with us.
We aren't talking about assistants, or quality control coaches
We are talking about past coordinators and head coaches for our team who were then the TOP coordinators for Super Bowl winning teams. Unless these guys have coached for every other team, they can’t make the same list
I could draw up a decent game
with the Giants defensive line
I like Fewell, but its not like he was doing a great job here. We almost beat the Giants this year, should have beat the giants. Not until Their entire deffense was healthy and Eli got hot did they start playing at a top level.
What im saying is that we cannot look back and say look at what our defense could have been.

Oh, I agree with all of that, completely.
My point is more along the lines of pointing out there is a pattern here. We often complain about our coaches, and the FO oftens fires them, but they seem to then find themselves as top leaders for elite teams. More than anything I want stability with our current coaches and them having a chance with better players there.
There are good coaches and bad coaches...
But coaching is mostly about what players you have.
If Kevin Gilbride had Eli Manning and 3 receivers like Nicks, Cruz and Manningham in Buffalo he’d have looked at lot better.
If Perry Fewell had Tuck, Osi and JPP in Buffalo, he’d have looked a lot better as well.
Our problem isn’t getting rid of the wrong assistants. It’s not getting the right players.

And whose fault is it we didn't have better players, not Fewell and Gilbride's fault
better players is only part of the reason coaches like Fewell were not successful in Buffalo. Jauron had Fewell running the T2, the worst possible defense to run given the conditions the Bills play in. How many of the Bills failed HCs have gone on to be successful HCs elsewhere? Looking even higher….after Bill P. left how many successful GMs have the Bills had? Look even higher….who is responsible for the hiring and firing of GMs and HCs? The problem with the Bills starts at the top and affects every single position on the team.

That is kind of my point
No stability in coaching due to one man pulling the strings, causing us to constantly start over, which kills the development of players and makes it a place good players don’t want to come to.

He’ll be in the Super Bowl next year, it seems!
