People are nuts with this stuff.
They just lost the Super Bowl… they didnt just go 0-16. Ill never understand, for the life of me, why people rip on the team that lost the Super Bowl. They made it that far, they were the “2nd best team in the NFL.” I just dont get why that is something to make fun of or say that theyre run as a good team is over.

They should just trade him to the Bills and be done with it.

Next thing you know they’ll be talking about releasing Brady because they’re about to draft a great college QB…. oh, wait, that’s happening right now with another team.

They most likely win that game with a few less drops, though i’m not as convinced of that as the sports world is. The Giants have something special in their end-of-game performance.

Yeah, I made the mistake of listening to some shows on ESPN on Monday and that was the prevalent theme, which I don’t think we can assume. The Giants just seem to have the Pats’ number.
"Slowly all the roles we act out become our identity. And in the end we are what we pretend to be." - Jerry Cantrell.
The thing none of them mentioned was that had the Pats’ players caught those balls, everything else would have played out differently too. In fact, after the first one one became a catch, everything thereafter would be altered.

Exactly, but people ignore this fact. Even if Welker caught the long one, they may have come away with only 3 and not 7 points, and Giants might have still marched down the field and scored a TD. They would have had 3 minutes left.

The one instance where we can without a doubt say the game would have ended differently is if Norwood made the kick.
The only play that could have guaranteed a Patriot win was the hail mary.

They just played in the Superbowl
I really don’t see that as a beginning to the end. They are still the best team in the AFC and its seems like its not very close. With their draft strategy, they can fill any holes they may have and still be loaded up for next season.
Being a life-long Bills fan, I absolutely hate the New England Patriots, but you reall do have to respect how good they are and for how long they have been doing it. The only thing that will bring this team down is if they can’t replace and aging or injured Tom Brady. He is what makes the work, and when he is done with football, the Patriots may then start to slide.
Andre' Got hosed yet again!!!!!!!!!!
They are this decade’s 90’s Bills…but less SB chokey.

I’m mimic the sentiments of the posters above me: This is nuts. If for no other reason than there’s no competition in the AFC right now.

True, but Baltimore and Pittsburgh are on New England's level, if not better
Just as the Pats were a couple catches away from winning the Super Bowl, the Ravens were a catch or a field away from making the Super Bowl. They’re going to be just as good next year.
Pittsburgh looked like a tired team. They have a habit of going to the Super Bowl, then not being that great the next year. This past year, they were good, but tired. I think they’ll be back to their normal eliteness next year.
Watch out of Houston. If Schaub and Williams were healthy, I think they would have won homefield in the AFC. Imagine any team losing their franchise QB and best defender, and their best offensive player (Johnson) for a stretch, and still winning a playoff game. Maybe the Packers could’ve done it? They’re going to be a powerhouse in the next few seasons.
If Miami gets Peyton Manning, and outside linebacker opposite Wake, and a safety, I’d bet that they’d win the AFC East and 12 games. I mentioned to a friend that Miami was built well and was a QB away from the playoffs. I still believe that.
Cincinnati is a good running back (to replace Benson) away from being great the next five years. Their passing game will be elite as Dalton matures, and the defense is great already.
I think Houston wins homefield in 2012, with Baltimore, Miami, and Denver winning their divisions. Pittsburgh, New England and Cincinnati battle for the wild card, with the Jets, Buffalo and the Chargers in the mix as well.
With Houston, Cincinnati, and Buffalo rising, the future of the AFC isn’t as bad as we saw this season.

I agree…to a point. I mean, there are a ton of “ifs” in there. I happen to think that “if” the Patriots figure out how to have a middle-of-the-road defense, which isn’t out of the realm of possibility, then they’re fully capable of running away with the AFC again. With that offensive efficiency, I think they’re better than both Pitt and Baltimore by leaps and bounds.
I am intrigued by Houston, however. I think they will be a team to contend with for a few years, assuming Schaub can stay healthy.

ridiculous. this is why fans dont run the show- because we overreact to everything. brady is still an elite QB and belichik still knows how to win football games. if the patriots have a good draft they can definitely get right back to the promise land.
watch the giants start 2-3 next season, to which NYG fans everywhere will say eli stinks and coughlin should be fired. fans are out of their minds with this stuff
Its fun to think quarterback, but i think the odds of nix taking one in the first are close to 0%.

totally agree……. REC. There are plenty of franchises that would like to have Eli and or Coughlin. Just like some of the Philly fans that wanted to run there coach out of town. Crazy.

It's already over
The Patriots are not in the midst of a dynasty. They haven’t won a title in SEVEN seasons. There is very little about their team now that even remotely resembles their defense-first, screen pass happy championship teams from the first George Bush Administration. Aside from the presence of Belichick and Brady, they are completely different teams.
New England is an annual contender. As long as Brady is in his prime that will probably be the case. But two teams have won multiple championships in the time that has elapsed since New England last won. It’s a hilarious to watch New England fans pretend that 2001-04 was a year or two ago. Their dynsaty has been over for several seasons now; their one of the ebst of the rest at this point and nothing more.

Just Because They Haven't Won A Title In 7 Years Doesn't Mean They Aren't a Dynasty
In those past 7 seasons to which you’re referring, Port Royal, the Patriots are 86-26 with 7 consecutive playoff appearances, 2 Super Bowl appearances, and one undefeated season. I hate to say it because I hate the Patriots, but that is a Dynasty. And it still is.

You can’t be a dynasty without multiple championships and they haven’t won a championship in many years. They are an annual contending team these days, whereas a dynasty dominates the league for several seasons. That’s hardly a statement that they aren’t good as that record attests. In fact, it speaks to how disappointing their postseason record is in recent years, blowing two 4th quarter Super Bowl leads and losing to underdogs in the playoffs six times in seven years. New England’s dynasty ended a long, long time ago and while they’re obviously dangerous, it’s a stretch to think they’ll have enough time to construct a new one from scratch.

The Bills never won a SB. Would you not consider them a dynasty?

The 90s Bills were not a dynasty. They only dominated the AFC. But they never dominated the best of the NFC.

They used to tune up the NFC in the regular season which made their failures in the Super Bowls even more painful to me.

Agree and disagree
The dynasty is over in the sense that they haven’t won a title in seven years.
Dallas in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s was a dynasty because they were the NFC team-to-beat, and they were always in the NFC championship game.
Dallas NFC Championships
1970: Beat SF, but loses Super Bowl to Colts
1971: Beat SF, win Super Bowl
1972: Lose to Washington
1973: Lose to Minnesota
1974: DNQ
1975: Beat Rams, lose Super Bowl
1976: DNQ
1977: Beat Minnesota, win Super Bowl
1978: Beat Rams, lose Super Bowl
1979: DNQ
1980: Lose to Eagles
1981: Lose to SF
1982: Lose to Redskins
Over 13 years, they played in 10 NFC Championship games, with a 5-5 record. They went 2-3 in the Super Bowl, with six years between wins.
In that sense, New England still has a dynasty of sorts, though not to the degree of dominance that the Cowboys had. In 11 years, the Pats have been to the championship game six times.
As an aside, holy cow. I don’t think they’re ever been a team as dominant as the Landry Cowboys in their own conference. The 80’s-90’s 49ers went to 10 title games in 17 years, winning five. The 70’s Raiders went to eight AFC Championships, which is close, but they weren’t the dominant AFC team, which was the Steelers. The Steelers only went to six championship games.
To go to the game 10 times in 13 years is amazing. The last three titles game, which they lost, they did in the three years after Roger Staubach retired. The only thing I can see even close is when Montana went to KC and Steve Young took over. Those Dallas teams were special.

Brady is still an elite QB. They’ve got a bunch of good young players. They’re not an old team and the guys older than 30 are pretty easily replaceable or were already the reason they didn’t win the SB. They’ve also got two firsts and two seconds in this year’s draft.
Most importantly, with our AFC East playing the NFC West next year, the Pats are probably looking at another first round bye. Seriously, the best QB they play all year is Matt Schaub and the 2nd best QB is …. Fitz? Flacco? Hasselbeck? Alex Smith? Kolb? maybe Andrew Luck? The Pats’ toughest road games are in our division other than Baltimore.
Unfortunately, the Pats will continue to contend until Brady declines and/or retires.

How? How do they do this every year? How do the Patriots manage to have multiple first and second round draft picks EVERY year?! And why can’t we replicate it?!

They trade down and they sell high on their older players. They’ll probably trade out of at least one of those first rounders to get more second round picks. I’m still astonished at what the Raiders gave up for Seymour.
You’ve got to hand it to the Pats on their ability to get compensation in the draft, even if not many of the players picked in that range develop into solid contributors.

That's the key..........
even if not many of the players picked in that range develop into solid contributors.
They accumulate all of these picks and have whiffed on a bunch of them almost as bad as the Bills. I’d actually say that Buffalo has done better in the last few years than the “mighty genius” Bellychunk has.

I tend to think that Pioli’s loss to the Chiefs was understated in terms of its importance to that organization.
