You had me until Tannehill
Would prefer to see one of the pass rushers, a WR, or David Decosta.

Like all but RD 1
While I like him Taneyhlll is not a 1st rounder
Still need a DE or OT at that spot who can start
We don’t need another developmental 1st round pick
Interesting thoughts
Ralph is on record saying the Bills will sign a significant FA WR (in addition to re-signing Stevie Johnson, although he didn’t outright commit to that but it’s still most likely and preferable). I’m thinking he meant Dwayne Bowe or Vincent Jackson, or at least Robert Meachem. I also doubt the Bills sign Mario Williams; it’s not their style to get into a bidding war over external FAs. I think they’ll sign an outside starting WR FA and probably also an outside starting CB FA, too.
As far as the draft goes, here is my wish list:
Round 1: DE Quinton Coples
Round 2: QB Nick Foles
Round 3: SLB Shea McClellin
Round 4: WR Ryan Broyles
Round 4: OT Matt McCants
Round 5: CB Emanuel Davis
Round 5: TE Michael Egnew
Round 6: C Garth Gerhart
*Round 6: LDE Tyrone Crawford
Round 7: WLB Sammy Brown

Love wpod's draft
I just hope Coples will be available at 10. Also I would take Nate Potter of Boise St. over McCants in the 4th

I don't understand the Mario contact......
How much does Mario put in his pocket in year one?
And what do the bills do with the cap towards the end of his contact?
Because that team doesn’t look like a superbowl team for 2012, 2013 to me…..
I think part of the problem is that we didn’t use enough cap money the last two years.
If they did, our cap this year would be the same with a couple of your free agents already signed….
The other part is that you have too much resource towards the QB position. The Bills chances for 2012 or 2013 would look better if the Bills got a wr or DE with that big pick IHMO.
Your waivers were interesting…..at first I thought no way, then I saw their cap hit.
I think the Bills really screwed Spencer this last year. I think there is little doubt he would have played much better at his position, DT this past year…. I had him penciled in at the 3rd DT spot in my head for the coming year…..
And we don’t know how Merriman is coming along, but if he’s on course I am sure Buddy wants to see him this training camp. Let’s not forget, if he ever got healthy, he is better than Mario or anybody really…..
PodunkO - The great post ender!
Oh, by the way........
Nice, cohesive thinking though. I think that all maock drafts at this point should include FA signings and show some realistic cap sense.
It was a fun read because you were able to do this.
PodunkO - The great post ender!
I worked the Mario contract
To be bonus money upfront and salary backloaded in the event of cutting him it doesnt have dead money count towards us
We have about 8 million in dead money this year

Yeah,
I don’t like this draft at all. And they aren’t going to cut all those guys either. They aren’t going to draft a QB in a make-or-break year. This team needs starters. They know this is their make-or-break year. This year, they show improvement, or there is a change, again. The one thing this franchise needs, more then anything, is continuity. We need to have the same coaches for more then 3 years at a time. We need to have the same system in place. Teams do have bad years. Sometimes, they call for housecleaning, sometimes they don’t. But, with so much at stake this year, they need starters.
I'd rather go out in a blaze of glory, then slowly fade away in the antiquities of time.
You lost me at Tannenhill in the 1st
that would be our dumbest move yet

I thought I was the only one who didn’t feel the love for Tannenhill. I don’t see what others see in him. I see a sub-par QB who gets frazzled easily and can’t hold leads. Not first round QB, or even third round QB worthy, IMO
I'd rather go out in a blaze of glory, then slowly fade away in the antiquities of time.
Dwan Edwards and Spencer Johnson
I think we need to keep one and cut the other. We need the depth at tackle and both are experienced, heady veterans that can play tackle in a 4-3. Chix evaluates talent much better than I, so I’ll let them decide which one we keep and which one goes.
Not really a point in cutting McGee this season.
His cap hit may be 6.3M, but 4.2 of that would stay on the cap (because of bonuses) even after we`d cut him. Personally I wouldn’t do it unless I`d absolutely need the cap space.
I`d also cut Flo before McGee.

keep edwards, imo
i dont hear much about johnson, but ive heard people describe edwards as a “reliable veteran” multiple times.
by Shadowfox524 on Feb 9, 2012 10:51 PM EST up reply actions
i would keep spencer over edwards.
edwards is 34 DE. we don’t need one of those anymore. we are running a 43 now. spencer and edwards both are 43 dts. spencer is younger and cheaper, and we will incur a cap hit for his release regardless, where as i think Dwan was signed to a straight salary, no bonus, and therefore can just be cut. McGee is in this category as well. He will cost 6 million to keep, nothing to cut.

What if
He excels at DT? Sometimes, a move excites a vet. If Edwards feels like he wants a challenge, like Meatball did, then it could be fun for him.
I'd rather go out in a blaze of glory, then slowly fade away in the antiquities of time.
uh, how many DTs do you expect us to carry on the roster?
Williams, Dareus, Troup, Johnson, Edwards, Carrington, Gilbert, Heard, Dotson- ALL of these guys are the size of 43 DTs… and I left out 6’6" 272 lb Moore- i mean, barely ANY of these guys are actually conceivable for 43 DEs. So, how many DTs do we carry? All 9 or 10 of them? No chance.

Carrington will be the strong side DE in our 43. He’s got anchor ability being that he’s a 34 DE and he’s got some pass rush skills too – expect him to drop 15 pounds and be good in that role.
Gilbert/Dotson have zero chance – that leaves Williams, Dareus, Troup, Johnson/Edwards as locks with Edwards possibly getting the axe
I love this plan! I'm excited to be a part of it! LET'S DO IT! - Venkman
by J2 on Feb 10, 2012 3:13 PM EST up reply actions
Moore? Heard? Gilbert was JUST signed. Why bother, if we are just going to cut him right away anyway?
I hate that we had Carrington bulk up, only to shed weight. Yet another example of poor personnel decisions to me. But then, I have been pretty consistently against us running a 43. Carrington’s best spot in a 43 would be the strong DE though, I agree. Far better than LOLB.
Not that I disagree with you. I just think that we stocked up on Defensive Lineman, only to have to go through and cut a bunch of defensive lineman.

and I did say "barely any" not NONE.
so i expect that they will try some of these guys at DE. Ultimately, I fully expect us to build our 43 in the mold of the Bengals defense from this past season.

The one thing I don’t get on this site (about cash) is how easily we spend someone else’s cash without any consideration of the fallouts of said spent cash. If Stevie wants top 10 WR cash, he should walk. He is not a top 10 WR. Vincent Jackson (SD) won’t be franchised and will be out there. Guys who want more then they are worth always in the end, end up splitting the locker room. I read that Wes Welker wants top 3 money. Is he worth it? At his age? I’d hate to be NE on that call.
I'd rather go out in a blaze of glory, then slowly fade away in the antiquities of time.
I fail to see how letting Stevie walk, the one WR who has chemistry with Fitz, is a good move. They’d have to pay the same money for Jackson. He has some off-field issues and it’s not a guarantee they land him. If anything, he should be brought in to play with Stevie.
And you don’t think Jackson wants more than he’s worth? There’s a huge number of reasons why he and SD will be parting ways. Money and worth are a couple of large factors.

If he wants
top 10 money, he simply isn’t worth it. He isn’t a top 10 WR. You can easily name top level WR’s that are game breakers. Stevie is a good player. The best WR we have. But I am sorry, that doesn’t mean he is a top tier level top receiver. If he wants top 20 cash, fine.
I'd rather go out in a blaze of glory, then slowly fade away in the antiquities of time.
Don't like it
Our biggest need is pass rush and you wait until the 4th round and we pick someone who needs some work! Can’t see this happening at all
If the team signs Mario Williams then they solve their pass-rush problems. I don’t care what it’d cost to get him, they need to get him. If they’re all about winning but on a specific budget, they’ll continue to be a very specific type of team: a team void of championship ability.

i hate that mentality. the “the bills will stink so long as they are so cheap!” mentality. its not true at all. the patriots, 49ers, falcons, and bengals are among the lowest payrolls in the league. the bills are right near the middle, and are close to teams like the chargers, saints, eagles, ravens, texans, and packers.
spending a lot of money does not equate to winning. the great teams almost all got to where they are by good drafting, good quarterback play, and good coaching. you cant buy championships in the NFL.
Its fun to think quarterback, but i think the odds of nix taking one in the first are close to 0%.
Like it except
I’d like to see us get Donta Hightower in the first. This will be my 5th or so time posting this but he could play SLB on 1st and 2nd down and then on 3rd down he can be a pass rushing DE go in for Carrington/Edwards.
With the 10th Pick in the 2012 NFL Draft the Buffalo Bills select Dont'a Hightower LB Alabama.
I think that you short changes Chandler by A LOT.
The market for good TE`s is going up drastically, as evident by the Titans re-signing a blocking TE for over 4M. Chandler this year will easily fetch 5+ on the open market, which is why I think that if we want to keep him around we might as well tag him seeing as this year`s tag number for TE`s is 5.5M

Because the NFL is a copy-cat league
Look at the success Belichick has had in NE with Gronk and Hernandez. Teams are going to try to imitate that and that is going to drive the cost of paying a decent TE up. So you’re right.
Bizzaro world
Bills draft Tannenhill with the tenth pick, but use him as a WR to start the year; 6 foot 4 he is the big tall reciever Nix said he wanted.
