Terror in the Backfield (Poll)

How many sacks will the Buffalo Bills defense produce in 2012?

Recent articles have studied the evolution of the Bills D from 1994 to 1995. In 94', the Bills were 3rd last in the league with a meager 25 sacks. After signing Bryce Paup and Ted Washington, the Bills nearly doubled their total to 49 sacks in 1995. Most Bills fans expect a similar improvement over last year's total of 29 (with 10 in one game).

I did a quick search for the most terrifying pass rush of the last 10 years. Who was it? San Diego, 2006. 61 sacks, just under 4 per game. And what familiar character drafted the demonic bookends of that hellstorm, Shawne Merriman and Shaun Phillips? Why, Buddy Nix of course.

The pass rushing defense we have assembled may be better than that of San Diego in 2006. Mario Williams and Mark Anderson may be a notch below where Merriman and Phillips were in 2006, but Meatball and Dareus are better than any other DT tandem since the dawn of time (Note: Opinion). Oh! And we just happen to have Shawne Merriman as well.

Enough talk. How many sacks do you think the Bills D will rack up in 2012?

(Note: NFL record is 73 by 1967 Oakland Raiders in a 14 game season.)

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
