First I gotta thank CHIX for signing S.Johnson. It takes all sorts of pressure off the draft by bumping WR down the list of needs. I've added Johnson in as a cap hit of 8.0million this year (seems logical since he'll get 24mill the first three years), and adjusted the CAP SPACE #'s accordingly. Assuming the roster looks something like the one I've put together, the BILLS would have +/- 18.175 million dollars worth of space under the cap, (that's BEFORE the 2011 cap rollover, but already includes 8.5 million for this year's incoming rookie class). 18.175million available, but some of that should be spent here REAL SOON.
--Urbik (being a starter and our backup center) will probably pull something close to 2.0million.
--Rinehart will get something in the 1- 1.175 million range as primary backup at Guard.
--Fred Jackson (despite having another year on his contract) will probably get a 1.5million-2million bump in pay.
Being financially conservative, and using the higher numbers, that puts us at 13million under the cap. That's plenty of cash to be active in Free Agency and get their "playmaker". **IF** that playmaker is a DE, CHIX might decide Merriman is expendable, release him and free up another 5.25million of wiggle room cash.
Regardless of what happens, I expect us to come into the season at or around 5million UNDER the cap, if only to keep us out of cap jail next season, and to give us some room to sign guys like Byrd midseason. (CHIX is a longterm kind of guy and I wouldn't expect him to screw us over financially by digging into the 2011carryover cash... Sorry to break your hearts)
