Hey guys - have not posted in a while - will have a few posts on the weekend but this is the first thing I wish to start with.
I am obsessed with Matt Kalil.
Matt Kalil - 6'7'' 306lb ran a 4.99, had a 30 bench, and has a 34.25 inch arm length. He is one of the main reasons Matt Barkley was essentially untouched at USC last year. Also watch his effort in running plays - exceptional.
Matt Kalil is a franchise left tackle that you can essentially place at the LT spot and keep him there for the next 10 years.
Scouts argue that Matt Kalil is the best OT prospect to be coming out of college in the last decade; comparing him to players like Jake Long, Joe Thomas, and a health Russel Okung.
I have been watching tape, and "scouting" for the past three years as a hobby, and out of all the offensive tackles i have analyzed - Kalil is by far the best with Okung as 2nd best.
There is no doubting that we NEED a LT. We let Bell go because he was offered more money some where else. We let Peters go because we felt he was too expensive.
How do we acquire him?
I want to make clear the improbability of my proposal and the tendencies of this front office. They hate to give up picks, and have a strong tendency to stay in place, or trade down. But I don't care.
The Minnesota Vikings are "listening" to offers and are "all ears" for quite sometime, rumors which have been confirmed my Adam Schefter as recent as this morning.
The 3rd overall pick in the NFL draft is worth 2200 points, the 10th pick is worth 1300 points. The difference is 900 points which is the equivalent of the 18th overall pick. Clearly it will take a lot to acquire that pick. The Bills should trade this years 1st and 2nd (490) picks leaving about 400 points. The Bills should also trade next years 2nd round draft pick (about 400 points). In the middle throw in a 5th for a Vikings 6th.
So the Bills have to give up 2, 2nd round picks, a probably a couple here and there to move up. Guess what - ITS WORTH IT.
What is a franchise Left Tackle like Matt Kalil worth? Given the new rules - he won't be expensive (until his contract ends). He is a sure prospect. Even after Fitz is gone, he will be protecting the blind side. If you can get a franchise LT - I think it's worth 2 1st round picks. Just like the Redskins believe that RGIII is their franchise QB - they gave up a lot - but at the end of the day its worth it because you have a franchise, pro-bowl calliber player. Kalil is THAT good, and is THAT important to the success of our team. We have a gaping hole that we have been trying to fill. Why not fill it with the BEST???
Why wouldn't you? I would even be willing to throw in next year's first if its needed. We should trade up to acquire Matt Kalil. I know what the reasons people will say:
- Nix doesn't trade up
- You are loosing draft picks
- We have other needs
- Blah blah blah
- It is impossible - DO NOT TELL ME IT IS IMPOSSIBLE BC NO ONE THOUGHT WE WOULD HAVE MARIO WILLIAMS ON OUR ROSTER AT THE BEGINNING OF FREE AGENCY!!!
I don't care. You are moving up to acquire a superstar - a blue chip player - a cornerstone player - a franchise player - a pro-bow potential player - with incredible gene lines. He is the man. For a long period team, he was ranked higher than RGIII on big boards.
The thought of Kalil (LT) - Levitre (LG) - Eric Wood (C) Makes me so excited.
Anyways - I threw in a polll And excited to hear everyone's thoughts
