From someone who's a fair bit away from the pre-draft action, and for what it's worth I have a thought I'd like to share.
Firstly, We all think of Nix as a bit of a straight shooter so, bearing this in mind I think Nix has given us a massive clue as to who we'll he'll be drafting @10 come April.
Nix has stated he wants to pick up 2 corners.... Seems logical to me that he'll want to play the percentages and pick up a very talented corner as soon as possible, then he can pick up a development CB further down the line.
A CB in the first round still fills a position of need. This player (to me anyway) seems to represent better value at #10 than any of the WR's or OT's (Blackmon and Khali excepted) A player who has a high percentage of being another piece of our defensive puzzle ...A player who from everything I've read about is a leader and a player who I believe could immediately push for a starting slot....And lastly, a player from Buddy's perceived 'favoured' South.. . that player is... Dre Kirkpatrick.
Buddy never seems to draft linemen early, he seems content to think he can pick linemen up in later rounds and mould them into starters.. Nix also seems to like his players squeaky clean with no character issues. These two perceptions and Buddy's 'picking up 2 corners' line makes me think Kirkpatrick is the pick @10.
We do need another top level corner because let's face it, how many times in recent years have injuries and our lack of quality in reserve hurt us in the backfield?
So, I'm on board with drafting the best corner available and in my humble opinion when we go to pick at #10 it will be Kirkpatrick because Claiborne will
A second thought of mine comes as a question... A question I also asked last year.
On all the draft rankings and ratings, all I ever seem to read about are college players from major or big school programs.
So, I'm putting this out there again to all you well informed 'Rumblers'
Who are the smaller program/school guys we should be looking out for come draft day? as we do have a record of always picking up at least one or two.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
