The guy is 20 years old. Once again, the guy is 20 years old. He has great measurables and is in the top 10 on every big board that I have seen. 3 solid years of production including 191 tackles and 3 interceptions last year. While it is not a position of dire need, it is a position of need no less. Barnett is solid but has been injury prone in the past, Sheppard is hopefully the answer for middle, and Kirk Morrison/ Moats scares the hell out of me.Kuechly can play all three linebacker positions in the 4-3, has the size (6'3") and the speed (4.58) to run with guys like Gronk if he has to, and solidifies our front 7 for many years to come.
I cant see Nix reaching on a tackle at 10 overall - it goes against his entire philosophy for the first round which he has been preaching since day 1. Especially someone who is being projected to play right tackle, maybe left in the future. Nix's track record going back to San Diego does not show a history of drafting offensive lineman this high. He values the junk pile players that with good coaching and working as a unit provide a solid offensive line. Remember how awful our line was supposed to be? I think they played pretty damn well especially considering the injuries suffered. I would love to trade down and draft a tackle but you need someone to dance with to make that happen.
I have been following this site for several years and never got involved on the message boards. The abundance of Reiff talk has made me sick. Im pulling for Nix to take Kuechly, Floyd, or Kirkpatrick/gilmore if Nix has a high enough grade on them. It makes more sense. We have 10 picks - take the best player available in round one that is going to make an immediate impact. Drafting a right tackle and hoping he beats out Hairston, is not the move.
