Next Stop: 3rd Generation of Winners

Nosce Te Ipsum

As you may have noticed, the responsibilities of most Buffalonian Pigskinners is going to be pretty cut & dry this season. Most of the same talking heads are bringing back most of the same ideas ...even the 4-3 is just a re-hashed oldie-but-goodie. Honestly, most BB defenders have had more experience/success in It than they'd had in Buffalo's short-lived 3-4 experiment. The Bills' expected continuity should likely help things go quite smoothly for them in the early stages of the season. Most starters are back, most vets will be in roles suited to their strengths & most rookies already know what is expected/hoped of them.

The unknown(s) aint so big anymore in Buffalo, & as Martha Stewart would say, "that's a good thing". I must say though, as a psuedo-unofficial fan-representative ...we aren't used to this happening! Buffalo Rosters + the 2000's + Continuity, is kind of like, Oil + Water + sumptin-else-that-dont-mix ...you get the point. I hate to bring it up, but I'm sure the music-city-it's-a-mircle-they-called-that-a-lateral was a curse of some sort. It's manifestation being that of: firing lame-ducks, switching out starters & schemes on an every-3rd-year-alarm, having players & personnel quit on the team, bad drafting coupled with even worse retention rates and an inability to stick with any semblance of long-haul planning. If you're truly a Bills fan, you know all-too-well how these have torn apart many a promising recent season.

The powerhouse franchises know how valuable continuity in ideals is. Boy oh boy, the difference(s) that having quality sideline & front office personnel makes cannot be stated with mere words. "The samurai devote themselves to the perfection of all which they pursue." -a perfect mantra to analyze for all professionals. Perfection can only come from calm. When an institution has consistency in their overall direction then all things are made easier on all those involved. The value of time {to learn system nuances or to let long-term draft strategies unfold/develop or to mold talents into steady-heady veterans} is maximized when people can pick up where they left off. Like a choose-your-own-destiny mystery book, it can be very frustrating to have your adventure move back to Page 1.

To the uninformed, it's amazing how these already great teams seem to mostly draft great players despite their draft slotting & how supreme college talents inexplicably seem to go bust for the gutter-franchises. To Rumbler's though, the reason should be very obvious ...it's nurture not nature! How many young QB's do you reckon have been ruined by too many scheme/personnel changes? Well, we can begin with just about every QB that played in western new york over the past 15 years & then mutiply it by 32, if you want a good starting point. Look, the Giants don't always draft terrorizing trench warriors, but year-in & year-out they have consistent gap responsibility ideals plus some of the best teachers (vet & suit) in the NFL. It's not like the Patsies always have great offensive skill-position talent, but rumor has it, they've had a lil bit of consistency at QB & HC, which hasn't had them needing to do much tweaking with their offensive strategy's seasonally like some other teams ::cough cough::. Basically, the best aren't buying new houses/cars periodically, they're adding mancaves/subwoofers.

Clear cut environments tend towards positive decision making results. Ask any executive or parent or manager or coach, this statement is true anywhere that there are people learning. FYI, people who want to be great at things usually never stop trying to learn. Taking 1 step back for every 2 steps forward is what a drunk does, and they get lost a lot don't they? Well, it's same for young athletes. The development-likelihood To environment-consistency Graph aint no bell-curve folks. If scouts could accurately judge a player's second nature smarts ("IT", intangibles) then no team would ever have a draft bust again. Players who excel in this area are always the most consistent early contributors at their respective positions/sports ...they also usually last the longest from both injury & effectiveness stand-points. If you think about it though, you knew that. A neat thing about all of that is how much of an affect environment, confidence & continuity has. These guys are only human, if you want to see stage-fright, just give someone the wrong tools or the wrong instructions, then go send them off on a job and watch the mayhem unfold.

And that, my friends, is how the future-history of the rise of this new Buffalo Bills football era will be analyzed & emulated by other franchises as our sons dream of playing at RWS. 1st they started getting good suits ...who brought in higher quality players & personnel ...who learned prominently from well taught vet's of the trade ...who stayed vested in effective systems ...then were rewarded for their hard-earned success ...then eventually seamlessly replaced when time found it fit to do so ...which convinced everyone that this was a progressive place to be ...& finally, it transformed our Beloved, back into the winning/wanted franchise it began as, & then, that I began fandom with. A third dominant Bills Act is on the horizon, so enjoy the opening credits, memorize the names & don't forget to big-fish the story when you tell your great-grandkidfans.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
