In order to add another voice to the "Franchise QB" discussion, I thought I’d do some research and arrange the current, active QBs by winning percentage in order to find out if the QBs most experts call elite are truly elite when it comes to W/L. I listed all current QBs with a winning percentage above .500.
In order to see if regular season "eliteness" and post-season "eliteness" are different, I also added playoff wins and losses. The results elicited a few surprises.
First, noticeably missing were Matt Shaub, Matt Stafford, Cam Newton. Their career percentages are below .500. Ryan Fitzpatrick should be missing, too, but I threw him in at the bottom for comparison.
Next, it is hard to argue there is a better current QB than Tom Brady. For a long time, I was in the Peyton Manning camp. But Manning’s career percentage and playoff percentage were both well below Brady’s. He is, perhaps, the greatest QB of all time. Yuck!
Next thing I saw… Holy Cow, Ben Roethlisberger! I know Pitt has a strong defense, but Ben is hanging right on Brady’s tail. He is a winner. Wasn’t he taken one spot before Lee Evans? Crap.
Other observations: Matt Ryan stinks in the Playoffs. Choker?? Perhaps. Not far behind him is Tony Romo. Both these guys are amazing in the regular season then crappy in the big games. What’s up with that?
On the other side, Eli Manning and Mark Sanchez are both no more than average in the regular season but seemingly fantastic in the Playoffs. Why? Maybe those bright NYC lights constantly shining down and watching their every move prepare them well for the pressure of the playoffs.
Lastly, how does it feel, Rumblers, to have the 9th most winning QB in the league on your team?
